K10: Built HP60/241-205 Doubler/tons of tube

This morning before I had to go I got the new longer u-bolts put on the front, greased everything and put some tiny bungie cords on to keep the front brake lines pulled away from the tires.

This evening when I got home I was pretty beat but knew I had to get at least one thing done so I whipped up the winch setup. Pretty simple and straight forward but I think it'll work perfect.

Welded on some seamless receiver tubing with a little gusset underneath it. I mocked it up and then pulled it off to weld the gusset to the underside of the receiver tube so I was sure I got a good weld on the bench then set it on and burned it all into the trailer tubing.

Then used some 2" x 2" x .250" wall tubing and just capped one end and drilled the hole for the pin and the two holes for the winch then ran some 5/16" grade 8 bolts through the base plate of the winch through the tubing.

Everything stores away nice and neat in the toolbox on the trailer...

Tomorrow is kinda busy too so I'm not sure what I'll get done. I should have some time in the evening to maybe mess around with the floor then get it loaded on the trailer.

Well thanks to chevysmithz71 we got it out of the driveway and loaded onto the trailer. That winch without a doubt saved us, I'm not sure the two of us could have pushed it up if we wanted to. So on that note if you're on the fence just go for it, this little $100 Warn winch is so worth the money. It chugged right along and pulled the truck all the way up and didn't even get hot.
Ryan was hanging out the side muscling the 40's with no power steering while I stood there holding the button down on the winch, thanks man!

WooHoo! Empty driveway!

Up on the trailer thanks to the little winch that could...

All strapped down ready to roll in the morning.

So on the agenda this week is get driveshafts and the exhaust done. Finish the floor and get the seats bolted back in sometime between the d-shafts and exhaust work, trim the fenders and then get some miles on it to see what's going to need fixing before Pismo.

I bounced ideas off Ryan while he was here and since I have some time next Sunday-Wednesday before we leave I might try to get the front shock hoops done and get some front shocks on it before we go. Might be kinda handy. :)

I'll tell you those 40's are full of tread and super soft. They were folding all over the sides of the trailer. I'm really curious how they do on the sand.
There was no way we could have gotten up there without that lil warn, good investment.
I like the idea you shot me last night with those shock mounts. When the front cage happens it will be easier to start fresh on instead of making things work.

Picking up the drive shafts on wednesday. A couple of beefy cv setups for the front and rear. Once they're in I'll take it to the exhaust shop and get this thing wrapped up.

I like the removable trailer fenders

...and everything else .:waytogo:

Thanks, I bought this trailer off my friend a few years ago and he did the fenders when he put new axles under it. I'd like to have drive over fenders but for now this works and let's me get big stuff on and off.

I forgot to post pics last night but I trimmed the fenders after work. Should have plenty of clearance now. I'm picking up driveshafts after work today and will be getting those in tonight and then working on the floor. I have an appointment to get the exhaust done Thursday morning, I'm going to drop it off before work and pick it up on my way home.

Trimmed the front fenders last night, I don't think it's too bad. It gained me a ton of room. I had to trim away some of the core support too but only the bottom lip that didn't really do much.

Today after work I stopped and picked up my drive shafts. They turned out really nice and even though I was sad about the price in the end it was obviously worth it. 1330 CV front shaft and a 1330 to 1350 CV rear shaft both with a decent amount of slip. I put them in tonight so I can pull it off the trailer tomorrow morning at the exhaust shop.

Oooo look at all that high pinion ground clearance goodness! :)

Oh I almost forgot, I met up with chevysmithz71 after picking up the shafts and he gave me a couple of the factory axle breathers so I could put them on my doubler. I don't know why but I couldn't find anything like them locally and I didn't have enough on hand to do both the axles and the doubler. Thanks man!

I need to stop complaining about the abuse of your sheetmetal, but I mean did you use a butter knife to trim the fenders? I'm sorry but it just looks hack to me.

Good grief man just stop reading my threads already, every time I see you post I can guarantee it's going to be a complaint about the sheetmetal. It's a FREAKING wheeler, the fenders are already wrinkled from trail damage.

Let's just agree to disagree. I think street queens like yours are pointless and stupid. You think all us west coast guys should stop cutting sheetmetal because you can't find clean stuff locally. Fair enough, let's move on.

That's the last I'll comment on this.

You may have done it already, but I always like to spray a little primer on a brush and paint the edges of the fenders that I cut so it won't start to rust. That bare metal will rust up pretty quick if you don't and before you know it...

Driveshafts look awesome, but I'm sure it was probably like $1,500 for two custom shafts. :eek1: Definately worth it though for piece of mind.

Oh and now you just need a flat crossmember for your TH700R4 like Pblaze was showing on his thread. That will get your ground clearance looking even better. And paint it blue before you install it!

Yeah I sprayed the edges, it is amazing how fast they'll rust if ya don't.
I do plan on building a tube crossmember for the adapter when we get home from this first trip. I just needed something in for now.

whats sad is i thought he did a pretty clean job on the cut...?
mine looks hack...

Haha, I noticed that the cuts weren't perfect and then thought, who cares? Of he ever decides It's not good enough for him he can either smooth them with a grinder or do a new set of fenders. I do like the lines tho. I just still can't believe how far this truck has come.

Looking good!!!!!!!!

Ive never really seen a shot of those tires up close. There is a lot of tread there. Always kinda thought they were like passenger tire tread. Guess not. Should be great in the sand.

Anyways, Keep up the good work. Should be done before you know it.

I was just being a bit sarcastic about the cuts not being perfect, every now and again the masshole in me comes out.
