K30 with a 6.2

On the way home with the wind it didn't drop below 45.

So I need some help to know what is and what isn't normal and some suggestions for home building a turbo.

First normal cold start it usually let glow plugs cycle off. It will start for a second then die. If I turn the key off and restart it will fire up and run. Cold meaning sitting overnight or even days/weeks.

Second I bought a banks manifold for my 6.2. I want to turbo it so I am still up in the air on how to build it. I know banks has a nice kit but I would like to see if I can't piece something as good or better together. I do have a 6.5 turbo which I think is a 8 or later. I was thinking of getting a hx35 then ordering the banks crossover pipe. Not sure if there is an easy way to build the piping into the intake. Any help would be great guys, thanks ahead of time.

If you need any pics I have a 6.2 with a banks kit on it, not in the truck yet.

Lemme know if you need anything.

I think building the turbo piping would be pretty easy but depending on money I would do it out of stainless. Just order some prebent mandrel bends on some straight pieces and go to town

After looking last night I think I am going to find a hx40. Looks like it will have a bit of lag but will boost good at towing speeds.

Mine smokes a lot, its a new pump but the shop I bought it from is a joke. IMO spend good money to get it rebuilt. i spent under 400 and i am hating life right now. I have a spare i want to get rebuilt and re install in the Cucv.

Mine hardly smokes at all. I mean the only time I have ever seen any smoke was WOT pulling a trailer.

So this is the current parts pile
1 HX-35 stock off a dodge with wg actuator and a outlet to hook to a 3" pipe
1 banks pass side manifold
Dodge intercooler

On the way, cross over for driveside manifold to banks manifold
and the banks radiator hose

Hoping for this winter to get a little boost.

Still not turboed. Towed my 79 k30 to the ORD park saturday. Topped some hills at 45mph. Honestly the dual wheels are great and for only towing a hour it isn't bad even when the traffic piles up behind you. The MPGs weren't that great 7ish but still about twice what my K10 gets pulling.

The turbo should make a world of difference. NA diesels are a joke.

Rachel noticed the packages showing up so I had to slow my parts collection. Red told her one ride to Tuttle in it and she would be ordering the parts herself.

Pulled my buddies k10 a hour for a tbi 454 swap. Pulled ok. Cold air sure makes a difference. The turbo is getting closer. The wife even realized I am not out of line esp since it will be way cheaper than a Banks kit.

What do you mean? He pulled the whole factory harness when he scrapped the suburban. He is installing it all.

Pulled the radiator and getting close to starting. The radiator needs cooked out bad but I may do my old school vinegar in it to see if it eats some of the white crap.

Well the intake is off and I found a leaking line going to the injection pump from the secondary filter. Turbo is mocked up I am working on oil feed and drain. Lots yet to do, hoping for dyno numbers by friday.
