ok i was at the parts store the other day looking for new lug nuts for my k5. the guy behind the counter asked front or rear, i had to ask if their was a difference and he said yes, but couldnt tell me what it was.

can anyone on here tell me what the difference is, i need new lugs for my new rims, and only want to buy them once.

thanks mike

I cant say if your new rims need "special" lug nuts being mags ,or whatever--but every stock rim I've had on my older 71-87 GM's all used the same lug nuts front and rear...I'm talking regular open ended lug nuts, not the closed acorn style, those might be different, but I doubt it..of course 1/2 tons use smaller nuts than a 3/4 or one ton,the larger trucks might have different ones front VS rears..dually's especially..

currently im using acorn style on aluminum centerlines. i have a set of cyclones im having painted to match, and they require the kind with the washer.

i dont know what the deal is car quest shows a different part number for stock front and rear lugs.

i just went out and tried the new stock lugs i got for the rear, and they work just fine on the front.

as mentioned the studs are different and the nuts are the same.

Most likely the computer catalog system asks for location and the parts guy didn't have the knowledge to understand. Either that or he looked up the studs and not the nuts.:dunno:

I know in my computer at work (I work at Advance) they list different sections for front and rear but they are the same lug nut.

Same front to back. Stud length is different front to back as said. If you swap in a light duty 3/4 14 bolt semi float 6lug axle I believe that has the bigger 9/16 studs. But other than that should be the same.

the link you provided is exactly what im looking for.

i will be posting pics of the rims befor i send them off tomorrow, on my build page.

thanks to everyone for their info and imput

Summit had some nice inexpensive lug nuts that worked out for me. I measured with a thread gauge before ordering because you never know what someone has swapped out.

fyi i have a set for 8 lug.

i cleaned mine up years ago with eagle 1 etching mag cleaner and brass wire brush .

then taped off the center / fins / outer lip with masking tape and rustolum gloss black the rest . over 10 years and still going strong no pealing or chipps.
