OK everyone I pulled out a good topic from all the Jeep propaganda.

Kaiser/K30
Front axle: closed knuckle Dana60/modern Dana 60
Rear axle: Dana 70/14 Bolt FF
Engine: not enough/Rat power
Tranny: manual?/SM465 or TH400
Transfercase: NP205?/NP205
Induction: archaic carb/EFI
Gears: 5.87(impressive, but pencil sized pinion gear)/4.56
Tires: 9.00x16 military tread/265/75R-16 street tires
The Kaiser wins in payload, crawling, fording and kool factor. The K30 wins acceleration, top speed, braking, comfort, MPG, cruising range, and towing capacity.
I'm not a Kaiser or K30 expert so anyone feel free to correct or add to my list.

Here's something thoughtful from Rob:
"I'm past the rabid "everything chevy did was great" phase. Which comes back to my "brand loyalty is stupid" comment."

You came to a K5 page and thought people wouldn't be rabid about Chevy's??? It seems like your still hung up on the rabid "everything Jeep made is great".

Also, the Dana 70 rear used is a coarse 23 spline, and of inferior metallurgy as opposed to a 14 bolt FF's. And, I don't know about a Kaiser being kool, I think they look "oakie"...there ain't nothing like a K30 (or V30) Cheebie!!!

AZK5, let me say that I'm not a Willys fan, BUT, I think that it would out-pull the Chevy. They came with the overhead cam hemi back in the 60's. Put out alot of tourque. As far as acelleration, and comfort, well, the Chevy has it. Looks, that is in the eye of the beholder. Just my .02 GOPHERKILLER

Looks are in the eye of the BEER holder!!!

I don't think the Kaiser ever came with anything except a I-6. I KNOW they never had a hemi in them. They are cool, but with a hemi in it from the factory, they'd be priceless. Alos they had the closed knuckle D60 up front that was also 23 spline, (weak), and they were never offered with power brakes or steering. They were purely military workhorses and even the "civilian" versions never had any real amenities.

My .02,

I am certainly no jeep expert but the only overhead cam engine I know about in them was the straight 6 230cid "Tornado" It was only about 140hp 210lbs

That's it - 230 OHC Tornados were the M715 power plant. I've never seen one, but heard a rumor that a few snuck out of Toledo with a diesel engine.

I'm so poor I can't even pay attention

Just curious, what kind of Kaiser? I have a '64 Kaiser Jeep Wagoneer and it's built with some pretty wimpy parts.

The Kaiser we're talking about was the M715 military 1.25 ton pickup.

Well, what can I say?

I think everybody knows what I am thinking right now!!!

BTW, dont forget to add to the Kaiser list: drum brakes, front and rear.
I doubt the Kaiser came out with the NP205. I think those were something else of a two speed t-case. Not for sure though.

I dont think I need to go any further about the K30 because it speaks for itself!!!

OK I'll get killed for this i know BUT,the Kaiser has mucho kool factor!!!a k 30 is just another gm body. Sorry, but you just dont see many M715s cruisin around. Now I,m not sayin I wouldn't swap out full K 30 drivetrain, cuz i would.

Yeah, thats understandable. Its not everyday you are going to see a Kaiser anywhere. While the K30 has the 'oh so boring' body, its the frame and drivetrain that makes your ding-a-ling go schwing!!!

I know exactly what you mean!!!

There have been times where I am pondering the suggestion of trying to mate something older onto one of these 'bulletproof' frames and drivetrains. Yeah, I agree, the Kaiser would make an excellent candidate for the K30 drivetrain, too!!! But what about older truck bodies? How about the Power Wagon? Even though its a Dodge, it would still be cool! How about an older Studebaker? A 5 window 47-55 Chevy truck? Or, a big-back window 55-59 Chevy truck? Oh, the list goes on and on!!! Just soooooo many choices to choose from and no money nor time to do anything like this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
