What are some ideas other than simply welding the nuts on to the bolts to keep shocks from being stolen???

As some know I've got a couple grand worth of fox shocks going on my rig. I've heard multiple reports of these being stolen off of raptors and such locally. How can I deter a thief?

Lots of nasty orange paint. Make them so ugly no one will want them........

Buy odd hardware for them. See if you can find someone who sells clutch head bolts. Id like to see a thief have a clutch head socket in their shock jacking tools.

No but really I think your best bet would be to run an etorx head bolt or something uncommon. Not typical hand tool stuff.

Guy locally just got the ones on his raptor stolen.

Some of those security ones look good. But I don't see why a set of channel locks couldn't get on them :dunno:

One other thing that makes it harder is I need them removable so I can take the shocks off and re valve and tune them...

Build a shop and lock up everything inside it.

Or get hardware that aren't common tools that most people don't have. Allen head bolts and some 12 point nuts might be some common tools for most of us but how many others will carry those with them?

Other than that get a dog and chain it to the truck. It can sleep under it for shelter.

I don't have money for a shop, and I'm trying to find something a pair of channel locks can't grab... I guess if the odd bolt was recessed in something it may work better...

Well if my rig is locked in my garage, that would be safe. Just drive down to borrow your shocks from time to time.

Or attach them with hitch pins and whenever you park, carry them with you. You'd be known as the kid with the backpack full of shocks.

Weld 2 small tabs over the bolt and nut on the axle. Quick zip with a cutoff wheel to pull them off. I dont think much else is gonna stop channellocks or vicegrips

Follow the "when in baja" rule?

I'm sure the RD guys have their **** locked down pretty well.

I hard bolt over torqued will give a set of channel locks a rough time. Do this, go torque a shock bolt, and then try to remove it with channel locks. Im also liking NorCal's idea.

I'm thinking one of those cone shaped nuts that need a special socket, recessed in a piece of tube.

Then the two tabs welded so the bolt can't spin, but will still be able to have it held down and be able to push out from other side. Somebody would need to make a crap load of noise to get that off in the middle of the night... And I only have the blazer here during the summer and always have my window opened.

Just tighten the bolts and drive through the northeast in winter for a week. The bolts will be rusted solid and take hours to remove. ;)
