L18 8.1L swap resource thread

I’m going to have to swap everything to that style, as my alternator/PS bracket is the Silverado style.

I don’t have Facebook. Is there a phone number? I looked last night, couldn’t find anyway to contact him

Yep, information is all still good. Amos is super easy to do business with.
After all the work and research into making the AC work our square body trucks. This is the only real alternative.
The OEM brackets for AC on the 8.1 are very similar in price, and most of them won’t work with our trucks.
So, $250 shipped, plus, guaranteed bolts right up. Accepts a Sanden 508 compressor.
Ordered today, will be here next week.

Question for you fellers with an 8.1
I’m hooking up my stock fuel lines, the inline fuel filter can only fit small diameter line. That makes it the pressure line, not, the larger diameter line . Correct?

3/8" feed and 5/16 return has been gm for a long time .
Thanks!
I agree with that.
I think that something is seriously wrong with this then. Because, the filter only goes into the smaller diameter fitting.
I’ll buy another filter. I think someone screwed up and sent me the wrong filter

No pics needed. Nothing I have fits anything on the truck. Not the the old Blazer fuel tank that I made accept a fuel
Pump from and 8.1 liter Silverado. All the tubes on the outside of the pump assembly are to fit an old carbureted Blazer.
Definitely doesn’t fit any of the fuel rail on the 8.1 either.
So, I hav a bunch of unknown fuel lines. I got frustrated and cut all the ends off and threw all the plastic lines away, since it was all the wrong size. I’ll keep the plastic ends.

Now, what to do? I will spend some time looking for fuel hose that can take the 70 PSI the 8.1 runs at. Hose clamps are going to be my friend, it looks like :doah: :deal:

I pulled all my factory fuel line and switch everything to AN fittings and steel braided hose. I then ran the corvette pressure regulator/filter for my return. Been working great for a while now.

I’m using a standard tbi fuel filter on my truck. Factory tbi lines to the filter and a pair of workhorse fuel lines from there up to the engine.

It depends on the fuel rail you are using. ( return style or return less) Dorman sells replacement fuel lines for GMT800 trucks. Though at close to $300 for the front half which does include the fuel filter. By the time you get it and what you need to adapt to the rear section you are probably a good chunk into just doing it with aftermarket line and an style fittings.

my 01 uses a tbi filter, at least it sure looks like one. as for the cost I have $200ish in my Fragola oil cooler lines (I may have bought a couple unused fittings)

To clarify a little here, the tbi filter a couple guys referred to here is the same filter that was run in the vortec trucks at 60-ish psi so it's not a problem in this application. They're super common and thus easy to find, easy to adapt to AN with some M16x1.5 to ANwhatever fittings and I'm pretty sure are 10 micron. We've use them in a handful of native and non native applications for a long time with no problems.

I’ve got a few questions.
I attempted to start the 8.1 for the first time.
It started, but, long cranking then poor running.
OBD code P0343
"Camshaft Position Sensor Circuit High Input”

Is this correct?

Because, that’s what I got. 12 volts doesn’t sound correct.
I thought it would be 5 volts?
Anyway, I got a poor running condition and that code.
I have a new sensor(the bad one is new also, 2 years old, never run though)
I’m going to end up chasing wires back to the ECM if the new sensor doesn’t solve this.

I do remember that the 5.3/6.0 sensors have a different pinout, but the same connector, so make sure you're not mixing them up.
