LED dome light bulbs or other LED interior lights?

looks much better than what I'm running with right now, definitely have to do this upgrade. Should have looked into it two weeks ago before it was freezing and snowing LOL

part number for the gauge lights that you used Abram, or anyone else? looks like there is 3 choices for the 194 style LED bulbs, I want to order the right ones. These stockers barely light up anymore.

I used the ones linked to in one of my last posts. The WLED-x5 (194 type) Wedge Base Bulbs. Basically any of the ones that show up in the search as compatible with 194 type will work. I got the above mentioned lights in Cool White I believe for the dash. I used green ones for the turn signals, and blue for the high beam indicator. As to get the best results you want to use the same color bulb as the lens it is behind, if at all possible. I normally try to get the bulb that is marked as the brightest kind (if I have the money).

SMD LEDs are normally the brightest there are, but they can be a bit pricey.

How many dash lights are there? I figure two greens for the turn signals, one blue for the high beam, one for the heater control and wondering if each gauge has it's own light source?

Already have the clear lense and led bulbs from LMC for the interior lights.

I've got the whole cluster out of the Burb right now. I'll have to check when I get home to be sure but if I recall in addition to the ones you mentioned there's 2 or 3 in the speedo/fuel gauge area, 2 more in the temp/voltage/oil pressure/clock area, another 4 for the dummy lights under the speedo and fuel gage and possibly one for the gear indicator if you've got an auto trans.

On another note, I also noticed in my cluster that there's a lot of darkening around some of the bulbs and some areas that look melted/heat damaged. I've never been into this cluster before so I don't know if the PO put higher bulbs in or what. I didn't think a 194/168 could put out enough heat to do any damage.

EDIT: Pics posted below.

Crap, just ordered some from superbrightleds.com... They have a search engine for make and model but did not list what was required. I took a guess but think I'm gonna be short!:doah: Just doing the dash first then move on to the exterior later.

Post up as soon as you know, I will order the balance and get it going right away.

Thanks in advance or looking at it.:waytogo:

I think for the whole dash you need 11 bulbs, if I remember correctly. At least thats what I needed for my '76 Suburban. I bought two greens, a blue, and a red for the indicator lights, then the rest are the cool white led bulbs. I think I counted 11 and that included the light switch lever and the heater controls. Now I need to note that the heater controls uses a different bulb than the guage cluster does. (my guage cluster is the speedo, fuel, battery, oil, temp and park brake indicator set up)

Chris, the filament bulbs do get quite hot, I've noticed on my front and rear sidemarkers that they have melted the socket and plastic around them. That was one reason I decided to start converting to LEDs. I've seen some trucks in junk yards that there is melting in the guage cluster too, but not in my truck.

Chevelle, what year truck are you working on? Got a picture of your cluster? that'll help in determining the exact number of bulbs you need

I am working on a recently purchased 87 Blazer. I am going to get a build thread going shortly but time is never on my side. It is a 350/700r4/208 with 6" of lift, wrangler 36's", black US Wheels, Silverado seats, police center console... on and on. I have used a ton of info from here for just about everything that is broke, breaks, leaks or works for crap! :thumb:

So here's the cluster for an '84 Suburban auto trans. The two lights unique to the diesel (water in fuel and glow plugs) are wired separately so they shouldn't change anything as far as I know. I count 12 bulbs total. That doesn't include HVAC control as it's all outside the cluster. Also note the socket furthest right on the top is the special socket with the fiber optic cable that goes to the glove box.

You can see the heat damage around the sockets. A bunch of them have hairline cracks on the edges and one was cracked/warped enough that it wouldn't hold a bulb at all...I had to reshape the lip with epoxy. It holds the bulb great now but we'll see if it can stay together for any length of time.

All my interior lighting, except my dome light, is Led....

I replaced my taillight sockets w/ salvaged Honda civic, sockets.
So, I Could run high powered led brake light bulbs, commonly available at auto parts stores.

;)

I put a blue LED in my dome light and I really hate, I'm going to get a white one soon

Bahh....

My friend had a blue light in his Integra, yeeeears ago.
He thought he was so cool, he would drive around w/ it on....

He couldn't find ANYTHING at night.... Including his dignity. :haha:

I just got these today. They were $3.19 with free shipping for the pair off ebay. They are for the dome lights in the burb. Not sure how bright they will be but a figured for $3.19 it was worth a shot! Going to go try them out in a few now that its dark out.

Well i dont think they will stay. Little too florescent of a light. IF its any brighter i cant really tell. I can tell you one thing though, those incandescents are freaking hot!!! Literally burnt my fingers!

Yeah id say they arent much brighter. Mines bright as hell but the stips are noticable and most people.wouldnt want green lighting. I do cuz its a toy anyway and it looks cool. Haha i think you can get the kit i have in white and that would make for one bright cab....

I've got a custom Grote domelight.... quality stuff...

also the guys Scott mentioned at superbright sell nice stuff too...

got a set of their turn signals...

These lights looks awesome.. I have never used such stuff and I think they are most impressive lights I have ever seen.. Thanks for pics and I will surely get them very soon.. Thanks again:thumb::thumb::thumb:

Instead of using the load resistors I am going to try and install an electronic flasher. The electronic ones have no load minimum.:dunno:
