I don't know why they ever put anything besides a BB gasser or a diesel in a 1 ton...chevy does some weird things from time to time...

Not really, you could option just about anything when you order one.
Back in the day, IIRC you couldn't get a 454 in a 4x4 1ton only the 2wd....unless you custom ordered it.

No I know you can order anything you want but I'm just saying in a truck that big I don't know why they didn't just come with BB's... Obviously its more $$$ but well worth it.
Some people want the big truck with better gas mileage than a 454. A Vortec 454 gets what, 12mpg on the freeway?
Now to really amaze you I've seen a 1 ton dually that was ordered from the factory withthe 4.3L V6...

can you still custom order this stuff? liek a 2wd 1/2 ton with an 8.1 before they discontinued the 8.1
I saw a '79 cc srw 4x4 with a I-6 and auto. Biyce Equip. had a few years ago.
Didn't know the 8.1 had been discontinued. When did that happen?
When the 6.0 came around... which is dumb IMO... the 6.0 is a dog. My boss has one in a 2500hd and it was huffin' and puffin' to pull their 5th wheel trailer up some hills...
