lets see your workbench.

Here's my man space. The bench legs are 4x4's with horizontal 2x4's. The middle leg has 2x4's on either side. The top is two layers of 3/4" MDF. Total material cost was about $85. I used ebony wood stain which helps the wood be more resisitant to various liquids and it cleans up pretty easily. One of these days when I'm not relocating so often I hope to make a more permant bench out of steel.

The top itself is 1307 lbs, plus legs and recievers, so about 1400 lbs total without any vices installed.
I picked it up at an auction of a bus manufacturer for $170.

Holy hernia Batman! Is it on wheels or did you find the perfect spot in your shop for it to stay forever?

That would be a nice bench to have. I can imagine the look on the movers' faces when they saw that thing sitting among the boxes they have to load! :haha:

It's actually in my shop at the ranch. I unloaded it with a backhoe, and myself and four employees moved it into it's permenant resting place.

Well, I'll let you guy's in on a secret. If there is any oil exploration in your area, make friends with someone in a heavy truck parts yard. Occasionally they dismantle seismic "thumper" rigs that have a 4'x8' 6" steel plate mounted midship that is lowered to the ground to recieve the seismic signals. They make one hell of a work bench, if you've got a forklift to handle it.

yeah, $170 is a hell of a score... good job! :thumb:

I'd love to have a steel bench like that, but there pretty much isn't room in my garage now that I have my other workbench built. Build-thread is coming... :thumb:

This kind of shows it

that floor is flat-out pimp. :thumb:

I might do that to mine someday. I think I'd be worried about screwing it up with drips of molten steel though.

nice! :thumb: diggin' the shop too.... that ceiling looks hella high. The one in my garage is just over 8'.... so that was the first thing that jumped out at me in your pic. ;) :thumb:

It's 14ft high, I needed the clearance to get my combines into the shop, they are 13'6" tall.

that rocks. Even a truggy with 44s would fit in there np. In my garage, I'm gonna have to roll it on 31s to fit in and out once I finish the cage. kinda sucks.

i just put this work bench/ welding table together. my uncle gave me a bunch of superstrut with alot of brackets, bolts and spring nuts. the bench is 30" x 48" with a shelf 8" below the top to store scrap metal on. 1/4" plate for the top and 16 ga for the back splash. just have to bolt the top down and mount the vise.
