Let's talk coil over shocks

10" will likely fit your needs perfect. 12 if you wanna work at it a bit.
@jekquistk5 his ice cream runner is what you wanna look at. Pretty much built for what you want.

Wade, On a daily driver, wheeler or crawler no heat issues at all. They had some heat issues with the guys doing go fast race stuff, ultra4 and bouncing..but the new external reservoir options have fixed that.

Sad face. :frown1:

I drive mine 95% on the street, the only concern is my air bumps act like a sway bar and clack a little. I'm using a ORD 4 Link on a 2wd frame with a modified upper half.
Just because you use them doesn’t make you a coil whore

As it was mentioned before FOA has had mixed reviews but I’ll give you mine...

I’m running 16” 2.5” reservoirs on my crawler and they work great. I don’t blast across the desert with them so I can’t say anything about how good they are for that but they work great for crawling, highway speeds, and small amounts of air time. I didn’t tune them other than having them built to my specs with compression and rebound. Just set them up and ran them.
As for customer service...
I haven’t dealt with them for a while but in 09 I did a SAS on a duramax and used FOA’s. One of the shocks did not make it into the box to be shipped to me. Initial contact had to be made via email but once this was done they contacted me over the phone with an apology and overnighted the other shock to me. Included with the packing slip was a letter with another apology and a phone number to call for a substantial discount on another set of shocks as I mentioned wanting to get a set for myself. Unfortunately I ordered the16s for a friends rig that I ended up buying before he finished. So no discount for me.
So this is my experience with FOA. They were very helpful when I was choosing spring rates for the duramax and if I ever run coilovers again I wouldn’t be afraid to get another set of FOA’s. Oh and one more thing... They used to offer the first tuning for free but you had to pay for shipping. On them.

Take a look at crawlpedia.. http://www.crawlpedia.com/shock_shootout.htm

Filthy motor sports has a great tech section with videos. Getting any springs to do your sprung weight calculations helps. It also helps if you talk to the manufacturer. I spent a lot of time on the phone with ads and they were more than happy to talk to me. They pretty much nailed the spring rate. I’m sitting at about 4-5” if lift with 5.5” I’d bump and 6.5” if droop. Could have gone to 14” but I think I’ll be fine with my 12’s. Especially when I do the rear trailing arms. Who knows I may end up ditching the d60 for a pair of whoop scissors like @Mr.Clean.

So I have a good bit nailed down on this after a good conversation with several folks on here. Here's the next challenge. I really want to keep my stock inner fender wells. I know that might sound petty but I need the protection from road grime and snow here. In this instance Shock hoops are looking like the best avenue. At least then I could essentially shape them the way I need to clear the fender wells. Cut one circular hole to for the crossover brace to pass through and I should be good. Of course not having the actual coil overs yet will be a small hinderance. It's still essentially the chicken or the egg thing. Which comes first...LOL I'm really tempted to locate a set of 12" coil overs used to do moch up, just not having any luck finding a set for a decent price. Don't really care about the spring rates for now.

One other thing that has been on my mind. In the thread "three day 3 link" they mounted the rear bracket in the space between the transmission crossmember and the saddle fuel tank. Now then I am not going to have the constraint of the fuel tank. Would it be advantageous to move the lower link back on the frame more to give a little better clearance for the crossmember? I will be using a bent lower link instead of straight. It will have an 18 degree bend to allow a little more clearance. Would this allow me to shorten it up a little? Possibly in FRONT of the transmission crossmember?

The stock cross member location is for a SM465. I will be swapping in a NV4500 and NP205. Anyone know how much that will effect the crossmember if any? Will that combo move it forward or backwards on the frame?

I'm going to pull the front clip as soon as the weather cooperates to start on the suspension work. I don't think it will be as tight as yours looks.

I have all the factory links and brackets from the f-350. I am hoping to use as much of the stock components as possible. With the exception of the radius arms which will be fabricated for more clearance.

Theres also cnc overtime makes shocks(have to look them up on facebook, idk what happend to their website) and also a company called big shocks. There are mixed thoughts on big shocks. Also kings are killer shocks but their tech support is absolutely horrable.

Call AFE. They are building sway a ways now. I talked with the VP of that division of the company while at KOH. They are trying to spank king by going over the top on retail support.

I've dealt with them on a few things, GREAT customer service.
