lift blocks on front axel

I know people dont like blocks because they can pop out but if its a block with a tab that goes between the ubolt like the ones below, it cant fall out, so what would be the problem with using blocks like these? In the pic below the one on the right is a factory block from a Ford and I have a Dodge Ram with a similar factory block, and have never heard of or had a problem, so if he wanted to weld on a tab like this/have a tab welded on for a cheap fix for some extra piece of mind that the blocks wouldnt have issues until which time a bigger lift is in the budget what would be the problem?

the difference is those probably were on the rear axle not the front

I wouldn't recommend anyone to get front blocks. I've never ran them. Did a 5inch in the back for many years. Just sayin if its in there and you need to drive the truck its not gonna fall apart on your first turn out of driveway. Just drive normal until you can get them out of there

your right it wont fail pulling out of the driveway, It will fail at the worst possible time and not only put the driver in danger but also anyone around them.

to the O/P get some stock tires to roll on until you can afford more lift or cutting of the fender. and ditch those blocks. anybody who says different is borderline retarded.

Blocks exaggerate spring wrap. which is bad enough under power, and can be deadly under braking and steering conditions .

And for those who mentioned blocks on the steer axle of dumptrucks. those are a drop beam axle and even with the block the spring is still below "spindle centerline" so the Leverage exerted on the spring during braking and steering is far less than if you put blocks on the front of driven axle like in a 4x4 pickup

put a 2 inch front add a leaf in there about 60 bucks and they come with a new center pin

Thanks for all the responses. I think i have a plan. I found someone on craigslist who will trade me his 12" super lift for my 6" lift and 300 bucks. Sounds like a plan for me.
Does anyone know what the length of a stock driveline is? Im trying to figure out if mine has been lengthend or if i will need to do that to accomidate the extra inchs. Also doesn anyone know what length brake lines would be good for a 12" lift?
Thanks

Wtf do you need 12in of lift for?

thats crazey a 12 inch lift i would put it all together then make it flex and messure to c what u need and u are going to need new driveshafts i put a 8 inch on my 81bazer and i need both to besafe unless u re building a street queen

it's easier to parallel park OVER all the smart cars and bicycles in downtown portland. :D

when I lived in downtown PDX, i hated having to park my truck - particularly up in the NW area or in the Pearl. I lived on campus at PSU and parked my truck a mile up the hill in the West Hills at the top of Montgomery so it was easier and free-er. It did suck to have to climb that steep hill regularly tho.

Definitely not getting a 12in stock length front to flex...

it's okay. when you've got 12" of lift, you can run huge tires and at low PSI. it'll ride like a caddy! :pimp:

But does anyone know what the length of the stock driveline is? Mine is already lifted 8" so im pretty sure its been extended. Im trying to find out for sure before i do the trade.

trust me on this you Do NOT want a 12" lift
it will cost you more than the other alternatives mebtined here

My guess is you have extended driveshafts. 4" of lift is about the most the stock driveshafts will accommodate.

With 12" of lift you are looking at major steering and driveshaft problems as well as a very rough ride.

I am running 4" of lift with 38s and a little trimming. Not many people on here run more than 6" of lift. It is just unnecessary and causes too many problems.

Get rid of those front lift blocks as soon as you can. Emergency evasive maneuvers are tough enough in a lifted truck - they are much tougher when your front axle falls off.
