Lifting my K5

The bumpers still line up fairly decently with a 1" body lift. The filler plate on the rear of a Suburban still sits under the top of the bumper. You would be hard pressed to notice it is even on there.

Now a 2" or 3", yeah they look terrible.

Whatever you do, DO NOT buy Rough Country. My lift flexes decent, but rides like a Mack. Unless you like feeling your kidneys bounce around every time you drive the truck, buy something else.

okey dokey, i'll play too...

What gears do you currently have?? Have you budgeted for new ones...because you're gonna need to help out your transmission. 3.73s and 35s on a stock 700 is asking for trouble in the long term. plus you're using more fuel (costing more $$) and you probably wont like the drivability much, IMO.

What I'd do...run a 2.5" lift, new shocks all around, some decent all terrains in a 33" size. Will get you a nice stance, not cost a terrible amount, and still let you DD in garages that aren't super tall and increase your off-road abilities. 33s will also let you keep stock gears and not have your trans hunting so much for a decent gear.

just my 2cents brother, welcome!

The cheapest option is to skip the lift and cut the fenders. Once you get over 3" you run the risk of needing driveline changes. That can be anywhere from a longer driveshaft up to a modified T-case and 2 brand new C/V driveshafts. You might not need any changes, especially if you don't care about vibrations much. Cutting the fenders is actually a great idea. Even minor trimming that isn't noticeable can improve tire clearance a lot. A little lift (like a couple of inches) is good for performance since the factory front springs are usually just off the bumpstops. But choosing a taller spring just for tire clearance can be counterproductive.

Remember that bigger tires really do require lower gears. Please post up what ratio you have. You will need 4.10-4.88, depending on various things to run 35" tires. Can you get by in the short term with crappy stock gears? You can probably live with a dog of a truck that can't use 4th gear, but it is extra stress on the transmission.

There are so many threads on this. Please search.

If it were me I would go with a 2.5'' ORD Shackle Flip in the rear along with a 2'' set of Tuff Country front springs. And go with a nice set of Bilsteins since it will be a street rig. If you run this set up you shouldn't have to fool with drive shafts, brake lines, T-case, gears, etc. I plan on running this set up with a 275/70/18 that tapes out at 33.5''.

I had a project truck at 16 and it gets old when your buddies are riding out Friday night and your rig is out of commission. I know you have the "bigger is better" mentality right now but go conservative and keep it clean and simple and you will have one clean, well put together K5. Go with something simple and enjoy it. Call ORD and they will hook you up. Good luck

I have 3.73 gears in my k5, Im going to go with a 2 inch lift all around new springs and a nice set of 33 all terrines. My right rear spring sags , causing the body of my truck to be 1 inch lower on the right side of my truck so i have to have a new spring anyway.

Thanks Everyone for the help.

Can i use my stock shocks with a 2 inch lift kit if it is now an off road vehicle?

More and likely not, you won't have enough shock travel. unless you relocated your shock tabs perhaps. But IMO new shocks with the lift is only going to help ride quality when adding a lift.

Working on a budget is always tough, but in my experience waiting a month or too longer to save up more money for quality parts rather than spend little money instantly for not really what you wanted but it was cheapest = and end result not as happy.

My 2 cents you have a running driving k5. Enjoy it and drive it for a couple months all while saving ever dollar possible, do your research on what exactly it is you want and what it will take to do it and save till you have the money to do it.

How do you guys feel about quad front shocks? Are they necessary? Should I get 6 shocks or should I only get 4?:doah:

Ditch the quad shocks and just run one longer one in the longer (optional) spot.

Depends on want you want in the end. Sure it would be badass, but its going to suck fuel like no other. If your K5 is just a weekend toy then go for it, but if its a daily driver its gonna be hard to keep fuel in it.
