linked one ton escalade (coming back soon)

Rain day at work today, and it's only an extra 30 miles from my camper back to the shop. So I decided to get started on the rear axle.

If you guys remember this was the oddball Dana 70S.

The center section has 12 bolts on the cover and is sort of in between a Dana 70 and 80. Still uses 70 size gears, but 80 size bearings. It's also side cap adjusters like a 14 bolt. And has 14 bolt outers.
So the outside axle bolt pattern is 14 bolt but 35 spline axles like a Dana. So my dad had a Dana 70HD Detroit locker, if you put Dana 80 carrier bearings on (which are 4 inch instead onlike 3.75?) ift fits right in. However the splines are in a different spot of the locker. So you need a long side shaft cut down 1/2" on the short side. And then a 1/4 - 1/2" spacer on the outside of the axle on the long side. So luckily I have 2 or 3 of these axles. Might just cut a 14 bolt axle shaft end off and drill a hole and use it as a spacer. I'll try to get better pictures later when I get the new bearings. I probably didn't explain it well. Lol

Also my dad wanted to grind down my truss to make it look prettier... just an old rock crawler.. jeez.

I'm really thinking about ordering an ecobox. I could order it with a 27 spline output, then use the 32 spline 241 I have as the donor for the box and then use the 27 spline 241 as the actual transfercase. Or would it be smarter to just buy the 32 spline input for the other also?

Since the 70HD came first, those are 70HD carrier bearings that the 80 coincidentally uses. :wink1: :D :thumb: :sign12:

The bearings in this 70S are much bigger than the 70HD otherwise I would just drop it in. But I need the bigger bearings from the 70S on the 70HD locker.

Went and looked at the condo I'm under contract on for the first time this weekend. So where are all the guys around aurora Colorado with big shops?? :) or anyone know of minishops for rent? Probably more than I can afford anyway. I feel kind of stupid now that I didn't take a single picture while I was there or save any from the listing.

If I knew of a big shop or cheap shop space, I wouldn't be working out of my tiny garage...

Well bad news, sort of. The loan company really didn't know what they were doing basically and they just informed us we don't actually qualify for the loan on the condo we were already 2 weeks under contract on. So now I think we are just going to take a break and wait until around April to start looking again. Also we decided we definitely want to find a 2 bedroom instead. So this could be a good thing anyway.

The good part. I now have a lot of money saved up... and an escalade that could use some cool parts... so....
