Little Input + 12V Cummins Swap

I can't think of anyone that has a crew on 40s but you might try looking through the "What would my truck look like with XX tires on XX lift" thread. Actually come to think of it there was a guy who shoehorned some 40s on a blue crew cab with little or no lift. Was it Sweet K30? Anyway he didn't keep them on there long I don't think.

I wonder who that was...:whistle::whistle::whistle:

Evening, hows it going? I bet it's startin to get cold up there.. I took a look at lunch today in the xxtires on xxlift but only made it to page 25 before back to wrenchin..Yes it was Sweet K30 but didnt he cut cut cut his way to bliss? I think it was on his blue crew... I wonder if anybody produces a std front lift spring with the center pin hole further fwd? I know Alcan will make anything but I'd buy some off the shelf 6"ers if I could find what I wanted..

I don't know about that but I have heard of some guys using some rear springs off a Dodge truck that have the center pin closer to one end than the other that will make your axle go forward like two inches I think, but I can't remember what truck they come off of. Was it a rear 52 or 53 off a full size truck or a Dakota spring? Dude I can't remember. Some of these experts on here will know what I'm talking about.

Hhmmm, interesting Andy, I do believe that our front springs are 46"...At this point I dont think I'm gunna 52 the front; maybe down the road when my budget allows. I'd love for sombody to chime in about this! If Dodge had some 46" 2.5 rears w an offset pin I'd be all over it, I guess innitially the only thing I'd be curious about how that might effect the castor.. I would immagine it would add some positive..

I know. You can just use a zero rate from ORD in the farthest forward position with your current springs. Or do you already have those?

Yeah Andy, I do have the zero rates set in the 1.5" fwd position; I figured if I started with a offset spring it would buy me what I believe I need.

So your're basically just needing the axle 1/2" forward from where it's at now? Or a full 2" from where it's at now? I think you may need to just go ahead and swap over to the 52s with of those brackets that let you select the spring position according to what hole you use. I mean what else have you got to do? Chase the ladies around? :D

Oh and yes it has started cooling off here at night finally. It still keeps getting hot (like 80 something) during the day. We've finally gotten a break from the humidity, so things are looking up.

I know I will need it further fwd than where it is now; if it's 1, 1.5, or 2 Im not quite sure but If I can find a spring w the pin 1" fwd than I can experiment... I dont have the ching ching for all the 52 equiptment + my land lord sold the strait shooter and a welder a couple months back so I don't really want to shell out for tools right now. I'm making a move back to Maine in the spring...

Dodge trucks of the 70's and 80's body style have 52" rear springs almost the exact same length as our 3/4 and 1 ton trucks...except their center pin is offset 2" towards the rear. Folks have run them up front as a 52" swap and used them to relocate the axle forward. I suppose you could use them in the rear as well.

I sold a set to Duntz00 on here this summer for this purpose.

Well, its been a little while. I've relocated my work life back to NYC, I started with Penn Maritime last year working 3 weeks on 3 weeks off. I'm still renting a place down in St.Croix but I'll have all of my stuff and truck moved back to Maine by the end of April I hope.

My buddy and I discussed a cummins swap today. After taking most of the afternoon to poke around on the comp I've come up with a few questions that someone here might be likely to answer.

Could someone link me a thread or two where a cummins swap was performed retaining the th400 please?

What's up Larry. Glad to see you're still around. Wow that's an ambitious swap you're undertaking. Should be pretty awesome in the end. :D

Man that's a weird work schedule you've got there bro. You must be a single man.

I don't know of any links but I'm sure that you could find one on pirate 4x4. Keep us updated!

www.4btswaps.com register....LOTS of Chevy/Cummins swap info!:waytogo:

AWESOME TRUCK btw, I just skimmed all 20 pages!

Made it back huh? Welcome to the main land!

What about a manual trans swap? I have driven several 12v/3spd dodges with 3.07 gears-mehhhh....no power.

12V+ 4.56 should have some serious go up to about 40mph when it runs out of fuel.

Story
I had a 91' 12v w250. 5Spd,4.10s on 35's. I lived on a 2 lane highway that was 55mph and had 3 passing lanes. Every weekend on my way home from work I would get stuck behind some idiot driving 50mph. As soon as they got to the passing lane- the little f--kers would speed up to 70-75. Well 12v+4.10s=77mph top speed. Even with .75 o/d. I bought and installed a 3200 rpm spring in the injector pump just so I could pass those jerks.

Anyways I think you got the point. Rant off

Thanks Gotsmoke,I forgot about that site.. I'll check it out today. 1beatk5, that hadnt crossed my mind (dunno why), I will b running a 38" tire but that's not too far away from your 4.11/35" story. We did discuss using a 4l80e. Reason for the th400 IMHO is the rest of the drive train can remain, ie: passenger side np205 bolted to the 400 and to the GM d60One thing I haven't taken a look at yet is; has a GM np205 been bolted to a 4l80e before and if so bottom line what's it gunna cost me in parts if I do it myself? It's be nice to have an overdrive tranny but the idea of using the original running gear appeal to me. Other factor is w a 5/6 spd I have to have my seat so f&$@ing far fwd; I'm 5'9", long peddle throw sux! I actually prefer a stick (my old truck was a 24v/nv4500 truck) but its like I gotta be right on top of the windshield.. I suppose if I wanted to I could mod the peddle box or arms but not goin there... Know what I mean...?
