Mine is welded but it is a 60 and I could not turn until I went with Hydro-Assist:D . For a 10 bolt I would go with a lockright and for a 60 I would go with Detroit.

Since we are on the topic... Nebie question here...

I'm going up 4" susp. lift, 35's, & 4.56's.

I do mostly in town driving, rarely but it does happen do some towing, then go camping at the creek twice a year.

Am I going to be okay to go with a lockright? I see most of the guys are using 33's or smaller. I'm just going 35x12.50 All-Terrain.

you should be fine.

if you are going to spend money on your 10 bolt, spend the least amount necessary. get a lock right. they are easy to install. with 33's and locked front and rear you are going to discover you need bigger tires and more clearance.

what gears do you have now? what are you going up to?

I suppose you`re right, if he starts doing more difficult stuff because of that extra bit of confidence you have being locked front and rear..Or you can just be like me and stick to the easy stuff:o :D

the easy stuff is no fun. You are simply lying to yourself saying you like the easy stuff. Budget holds you back and you think, "this is fun" when if you had the money you would go extreme, anyone would.

I did it like this. wheeled open 10 bolts, then 3/4 tons and a rear locker, then a front locker, then a 60 and 44's, then start removing the body. taken me 8-9 years to get from stock to this though, but it still happens.

I guess thats partly true. But it isn`t just budget that holds you back, its more knowing its your DD.

:doah: that was my DD. up until the 44's and 60.

If you are asking about putting a locker in the front of your driver and you have another project, I would put the money into the project.

Am I the ONLY one running an Electrac? I don't think I've seen a single person on this board with one. I got my truck with it. Personally I love it!

Off, limited slip, or locked at the push of a button!

so i have to pull my front end apart to put gears in it...and i was figuring that if ive got it all apart that it would make sense to put a locker in it at the same time...

Broncoman, I see you're over in Chuluota. Unless you trailer your rig out of state I guess I don't see why you would need full up 'lockers'. Last fall I broke down and upgraded my gears from 3.08 to 4.11 and went with Auburn Posi units front and rear. All of my off roading is out on the Deseret Ranch so I just wanted to make sure I have all four wheels pulling whenever I get into any 'soft' spots. I drive it on the road about 25 miles to get there and so far have been totally happy with it. However, that said, as you know it has been extremely dry around here for the past year so I haven't really needed to use my 4wd.

I had 'Pete's ' up in Titusville do all the work for me as he does nothing but 1st class work. It was $2,500 for everything and he completely rebuilt both the front and rear axles (bearings, seals u-joints etc).

Any opinons on a posi? I am getting one for with my D60

where are you at in florida? me and my buddies dont whee lmuch...but when we do we go to 520, the deltona mudhole, or out in lake harney. along with various spots on friends propeties.

if was more of an idea...honeslty im not that i wheel my truck enough to "justify" the buryinig of a locker..it was my dads suggestion and was just "feeling" around for what everybody is runnin.

I run a Lockright in the front of my Ford. I chose it because it was cheap - cheap/easy install - and easily reversible just in case I didn't like it.

Well... I never want an open diff again. :D

Lockright or Detroit from now on.

I run a Trac-Lok in my 10 bolt for 15 years now. I have broken several axles and stubs.

I have come to the conclusion that a locker or spool or welded front is best for hard core.

Here's why, I wheel rocks, root rutted uphills, mud and sand. When ever the load on the front end reach it lock up point the non spinning wheel has a tredmendus load or shocking of the axle shaft. Often more than a 10 bolt can handle.

Yes, there is load on the welded/spool axles to; but I feel that the way I wheel that there is less than when a LS locks up and shocks that other axle shaft. So go for the lock front end, lockers or spools are cheaper any how. BB

I have a Dana 60 front axle, and a 14bFF in the rear, and I run Detroit lockers in both. I love the added traction, it feels unstoppable! With my triple stick shifters and the front hubs locked in, I just engage/disengage the front axle when required on the trail. I still have stock steering, but it is difficult to turn when the front axle is all locked in. I will be going to Hydro assist soon...

I vote for the Detroits...

I have an ARB...
It's sweet having an open front cruisin' thru tite trails..:wink1:

i have an auburn ls in my rear axle, could this be swapped to my front when i get a 14? it looks like its a full carrier replacement though.
