I've read and watched a quite a bit on this and they state they have no concern with running in any configuration. (and he has)Correct on the old style doubler. I’m not sure what the recommended for the magnum

I believe that the whole "don't run the most forward box in low while the secondary box is in high reasoning" is due to the added stress put on the output shaft of the forward box and/or the input of the secondary box when driven in that configuration - in the Magnums case ORD designed that input on the 205 side to be "FAT" and can take the abuse no matter what configuration is being used. Points towards the Magnum for being "Top Dog" !Correct on the old style doubler. I’m not sure what the recommended for the magnum
In some ways it makes more sense to go to something like 8L90E instead of adding more gearboxes. Surely there are different headaches, but going from a TH-400 to an 8L90 isn't far from a 2:1 difference (1.84) in 1st gear. Plus, with 2 overdrives you would probably pick a lower differential gear as well. Probably could be set to take off in 2nd gear when appropriate (still lower than TH-400 1st gear). Probably part of GMs motivation was to get rid of the range selection in the transfer case, but combine one with the case of your choice for up to 16 ratios available.
Probably sell it for $4k after this batch is sold out if you dont end up using it…just sayinI always swore I’d bust a credit card wide open if they were ever again but, man, at $3k I just can’t do it.
Damn cool though.

It seems to me that 3:1 is perfect for those that don’t do technical crawling, I wonder why these don’t stay in production…maybe the price drives people away
I will say that in my Jeep with 4:1 it’s almost too low here on the east coast, in Moab I would have liked it but there are a lot of times here where 2.72 isn’t quite enough and 4:1 is too low but I blame a lot of that on the auto….with a stick 2.72 was always fine out here.
