my old shop is out of business… i need a new transfer case 208c3 (assuming because just lost all power to rear end with a lovely sound, but limped home in front wheel drive).
1985 K5 350/4L60… any recommendations would be appreciated!
truck is in east Long Beach.

If you drove on the front axle your tcase is not the problem.
Something is wrong in the back.
Did you try any diagnosing?

Sounds like my 208 back in the day when it blew up . Would only move in 4low . Drain plug i got nasty fluid and lots of needle bearings .

It's funny I had the same thing happen with mine, it was nothing in 2wd but put in 4wd low, it ran, then I shifted it back to 2wd and it worked.
It was empty so I filled it back up, it works but every time I hit the brakes hard, something moves forward and it goes neutral again, so I shift it in 4 low again then back to 2wd and go.
I have another tcase waiting for it but no time to do it.

that was my first thought too. i just replaced entire rear brake system, so i assumed something was loose and id be finding teeth in the differential, but nice and clean, tight.
the previous shop said tcase was the issue, so im going based off that advice.

If it's your rear end, take it to The Gear Shop off Paramount Blvd. Long Beach, maybe Bellflower. If it's your t-case, I got nothing.

so, got everything Tcase apart and looks brand new except for the annulus bushing has at least 2mm of play…took the planetay unit to boston transmission in Whittier and the guy said it wasn’t a problem to have play? i asked him to replace it anyway as i don’t have the necessary presses.
any advice is appreciated im stumped…

Well you said the t case is fine yet you only have front wheel drive correct? Next suspect would be the rear axle. But since you seem to have a habit of asking for advice and then replying with smartass answers I guess you don’t need anyone’s help

sorry dad. read the thread. the first thing checked was the rear end. I’m skeptical of the annulus gear bouncing around and having a recommended shop telling me it’s fine to bounce around
