Looking at my options for tires.

I wanted to step up to 37"s, but honestly don't need the clearance. I think I've also made the decision to move to an all terrain tire. I was looking for a load range E tire, and there doesn't seem to be a whole lot of choices. That put the General Grabber X3($1220 shipped), BFG KO2($1175 shipped), and the Wrangler Duratrac($1183 shipped) on the list. I really don't want to regret not having a mud terrain, but I spend almost all of the time on pavement and gravel getting to camp and bike trails. It sure would be nice to quiet the ride down some too.

That brings me to the wildcard Pit Bull PBX($1210 shipped). These are the best deal vs retail. There really isn't much info out there other than a glowing fourwheeler.com review. It looks to be what I am looking for in a middle of the road tire. I just haven't heard much about them from anyone.

What say the masses?

No worries. Those tires look mean on your rig. I really want to go back with mud tires, but the downsides are outweighing the positives right now. I'm definitely looking for better road manners in severe weather.

I'm not sure if they make a 37 but I have 35x12.50r17 (E) Toyo Open Country A/T2's on my daily driver (Dodge 2500) and I love them, quiet and smooth. This is my second set, I got around 50k out of my last set.

I like that mileage! I should have been more clear, while I want a 37, I am probably sticking with a 35. The Pitt Bull only comes in a 35. I am going to poke around for the Open Country's and see what deals are out there.

My Toyo RT tires are my favorite. I have them on both trucks and I sell them hands down the most. They are some of the smoothest and quietest all terrains available. They have it all. And more often than not are a better price than others.

Going on 2+ years with my Duratracs. I absolutely love them. Quiet on the highway and good on dirt, snow and rocky trail when aired down. I stress aired down as snow traction wasn't as good at street pressure. Only thing I haven't really pushed them in is mud. Still I've got close to 14,000 miles on them with very little wear. Mine are load range E's too. Good aggressive all terrain.

I'd like to add that a few years back I had 33" Hankook Dynopro AT's on the same truck, WORST tires I've ever had. These tires always had a vibration, with each rotate & balance it might change speed or severity but it never went away. Only lasted about 30k too.

I’m kind of leaning toward the Cooper Discoverer STT Pro. I found a set of 37s for a decent deal. It’s a little more aggressive than an all terrain but not quite a full on mud terrain. Need to make a decision in the next few days.

The Cooper STTs are stupid expensive compared to their other models and they don't have a tire warranty. My tire guy steered me away from them because most people only get about 30-35k miles out of them.

Get the Discoverer AT3 instead. Available in 37/12.5 17. I just put some 34s on my Dodge and they ride very nice.

If you can live w/ a 35, I'd look at the Mastercraft Courser ATX (basically the Cooper AT). I just got 63k out of the set on my dodge and would have stayed w/ them if they had the size I wanted.

In these tires, they were all on my daily (2005 dodge ram 4 door long bed diesel and i tow 8k to 12k 4 to 5 days a week) and in a 35x12.5r17.

I ran the bfg ko2, they felt squishy on the road, they did good in the snow, but I only got 20k on the set.

After those I ran the toyo rt, these ride great, they tow awesome, they do well in the snow, and I believe they have a 45k mile warranty on them. I got 35k out of them, and a $750 discount from the mileage warranty.

Now I am running the toyo at2, I haven't had them on this truck long but I've had them on a different truck before. I was happy with them in snow and the mileage I got out of them. They ride nice and tow very well. I believe they have a 50k or 55k mileage warranty.

Toyo rt or the at2 would get my vote

Putting some thoughts together for the short list. Need to make a decision in the next few days and get them coming. I included 35s and 37s if they make both. The Cooper 35s are more than the 37s, so they aren't included. I've felt like the bus needed bigger shoes since i've owned it, so I'd definitely feel better about replacing half tread tires with a bigger size. I'll probably put 5-8k per year on the rig. I'll add pics a bit later.

I'm leaning toward something more aggressive. I don't want to get stuck beacuse of tire choice. Planning to do Daniel Boone Backcountry Byway and other expedition type trails. Decent amount of mud on most of them.

I ran STT Pro's on another truck. It was the gen 1 version though. I really enjoyed those tires and when they were gone I went to Cooper AT3's and a set of their M+S for plowing. These are on my dirtymax.

I've heard good things about the Generals and we used to run alot of general tires on the shop trucks (but that was 20 years ago) but for me I'd be with the cooopers.

I’ve been really impressed with the Stt pros on my blazer. Right at 10k on them and very little wear, most off it from having a Detroit rear locker and chirping the inside tire. Pull great off-road for the stuff I’ve been in so far.

I'll add this. I have ran both of the cooper tires you listed. The STT PRO's are good tires but the tread compound is a LOT softer than the AT3. For me here they were worn out in one season on gravel and limestone rock roads. I put the AT3 tire on the girlfriends suburban and they did much better. They lasted about 2.5 seasons here which is pretty good. So for your use, if it's mostly on highway and good roads I would go with the AT3 for a harder compound and the STT pro if you want something softer. The STT Pro was very quiet running down the road, traction seemed good with them on ice and snow as well. Just have to spin them a little faster to keep them clean.

I have nothing to add on tires but I just looked up that Daniel Boone Byway and that looks like one of hell of a trip! Added to the bucket list. When are you trying to go?
