Looking to buy 1974 K5

As soon as I get them both stripped of paint and all surprises revealed, I hope to get a better idea.

You will....I wish I had done that to begin with...if I had stripped them both down to metal to start with, I could have saved a bunch of time...although, I was learning and it was time well spent.

The only way you are going to know for sure is to take them down to bare metal...or you could also make the decision to just replace them and take them off and save time that way.

BUT, if you are trying to preserve the original metal, then stripping them down is the way to go.

If it's any consolation, yours and Ryoken's rust thread has taught me a great deal. My thought process is to get them down to bare metal, see what's salvageable, and go from there. Like you I want my truck to be as rust free as possible and close to original. Either way, I have a ton of work ahead of me.

Yowtch...he's proud of that. I just ordered 1 ea bedside patch panel for a total cost of $84 with shipping. I only ordered one to see what the quality and fit will be. If it works out I think I can repair both sides without removing them.

On a side note, you were right about the rust under the cap on top of the bed rails. Although not as severe as yours, it was still present and on its way to getting worse.

there ya go...the sheetmetal all has been replaced already...at that price I'd jump on that

Seems like a great price. With all new sheet metal and all that. Engine should be anether grand and hopefully the rest if the truck inside and wiring ain't too hacked up.

That sucks. Did he say if it went for asking price? Woulda been a good project. Keep lookin you'll find another.
