Lost and Found - LS3 6L80 NP205 Full Frame Off

Soooo. During the cam install we had to take out the "Phaser" and do a little work. The ONE AND ONLY rule with the phaser is "don't let the spring pop out and ruin the phaser" because then you have to buy an all new phaser and they're not only hard to find but expensive.

5 minutes into the phaser modification and POP! The spring in the phaser jumped out. Totally my fault for not reading all the way through the instructions but come on, i'm a guy, I don't read instructions.

Anyway, called around to some dealerships today and found the ONE phaser in all of Georgia and then had to drive 2 hours to get it. Now that I have a new phaser I will continue with the build tonight and hopefully have some good news by morning.

I also got the whole thing on video, they're is a lot of cussing but after I add some bleeps i'll post it up.

I finally got the cam and phaser back on the motor. Everything went together great just like it should.

I started to swap valve springs and at cylinder 8 I had a pressure leak. Looks like i'm taking the heads off for a quick valve job next week.

I just want to get this thing back together so I can check it off the list.

On another note I took the K5 to my body guy to start working on the metal and a few other things I need done, it looks like i'm bringing the frame back to my house later so I guess it's going to officially be a frame off build.

Also, my machine shop should have my 6L80E to NP205 adapter done this week. Pretty excited to see how that turns out.

That's it for now, check back later and hopefully something will actually get done.

What kind of pressure leak were you experiencing?

Frame off build on a sweet k5 already? Can't wait to see what it looks like then.

@Babaganoosh - When I hooked an air line to the cylinder air was coming through the intake manifold so it was passing by the valve. It ended up being some carbon but I wanted to take it all apart while I have it out and make sure it wasn't something worse like a bent valve or bad seat.

Here are some pics of the motor while we were taking the heads off...

Here are the cylinders and pistons once we removed the heads and started cleaning everything up...

Here are the heads when I got them back from the machine shop, tanked 3 times to get rid of all the carbon. I also had them change out my new springs while they had them apart...

I've been out of town all week so I am still waiting on my NP205 adapter and tomorrow I will hopefully get the heads back on the motor and get it buttoned back up.

I got the first prototype for my transmission to tcase adapter. It's fully clock able and allows for proper engagement.

After a few changes I'll have it done in aluminum.

I'm still working on the stupid adapter but here are some new wheels I bought today.

They came off a 2013 Sierra after 20 miles. Dealership sold them to me for 400. I'm a happy camper. Looks like I'll be going 35x12.5 or possibly 37s

That for the K5?
How will you fit them over the front hubs?
Meanwhile they have a lot more backspacing than the stock rims.

I was planning on the wheel spacers. I'm having my hubs measured at the body shop I should know something soon.

3.5" hub diameter... 3.25" wheel inner hub diameter.

Doh!! $%&$%&

Anyone want to buy some nice wheels?

Interesting. I just figured since they make alum wheels that fit over our hubs with that same bolt pattern, it would be the same.

Why don't you get some nice rallies or something? Idk, the newer wheels just seem so wrong

I stopped by the body shop today. They've got it torn down pretty good. Body comes off the frame tomorrow and off to the powder coater after some additions from ord.

Oh and I sold the big block/turbo400/np208 to a guy at the shop so they'll take it out tomorrow as well.
