Lost and Found - LS3 6L80 NP205 Full Frame Off

I guess I can classify it as a full frame off restoration now. Getting pumped about the progress.

That's the way to do it!

There is proof that you are happy to have it back in your possession!!:waytogo:

Great to hear stories like yours, keep the updates coming!

Went back to the shop and they have the frame completely stripped now. They also installed the ord front shackle bushing kit, steering support bracket and steering box reinforcement.

I called ORD and ordered a full set of their custom springs, HD front and rear shackles and the front knuckles for the cross over steering.

I went with 6" full springs front and rear with no extra shackle length. What are you thought on using no shackle?

Sorry I meant no Shackle flip. Instead of doing a 4" Shackle Flip and 2" spring I did a straight 6" spring with factory shackle.

I think you would be fine with out doing the flip personally. The flips do usually make them ride better, but most "street queens" are perfectly happy with a normal 6" lift.

If I read correctly the 6" springs are Stephen's custom springs so the ride will be better than your usual 6" lift springs.

One advantage to the spring lift over a flip is that you won't have the shackle hanging down as far. FWIW

My body guy didn't feel comfortable reusing the 28 year old undercoating so we stuck it on a rotisserie. Once the undercoating is off I'll have the underside coated in polyurea.

The ride will be way better with the flip and 2in springs, over 6in springs, but to each his own.

agreed. you cant use standard logic when it comes to custom springs.
I bet those 6" springs ride better than a shackle flip with stock leaves.

This thing should be sweet when it is done.
Have you checked to see how the motor and tranny is going to fit in you frame yet.
How make longer is the 6L80E then a 4l65E?
Are you going to have to move your crossmember to make it all fit.
Another thing to consider with a 205 is clearance on the tranny for the front CV joint.
I know on the advance adapter kit for the 205 I used had the VSS in it, do you have a way to hook one up on your set up, the computer has to have one.

We have test fit the motor and trans but not the NP205 due to the adapter still in the "testing" process. I'm coming from a big block so the new motor looks so small in the engine compartment.

Not sure how much longer the 6L is over the 4? It's a huge mother though.

I am planning on moving the cross member but I have been told by some guys on Pirate I will not have to. Who knows.

The adapter I am making is going to be clockable so I can clock the 205 around so it clears the transmission.

The 6L80 is a fully electronic transmission. All the speedo will go through the ECU in the trans.

I'm sure I will be reaching out to you as I put it back together, I hope you don't mind. I've read through your entire build and i'm not looking to reinvent the wheel. My build is in a slightly different direction but one day I hope it grows up to be like your truck :waytogo:

And for the "Why 205" Question below... Because it's $800 brand new and bomb proof, so why wouldn't I use the 205?

They are inferior in most ways except for strength to a newer transfer case. This looks like it is going to be a nice driver, not an off roader.

So are you changing the speedo?
Mine is still hooked up with a cable to the 205 and the computer gets its reading off the vss.

I will be glad to help with anything I can.
I may even learn something from build also.
You will only be able to leave the crossmember it the motor has enough room to move forward. Mine is pushed back almost 2"and the 4L65is the same length as a 700r4 with the adapter.

Nothing wrong with a perdy driver :thumb:
