Lost noob

Stock trans is 700r4
TBI doesn't like a bunch of mods without lots of chip work, so just have them rebuild it.
Then rebuild the TBI or buy a fresh one.
Then be happy

other than all the rust

As for rust, you should be very easily able to find a much happier donor in your area. @GWeakland620 is just down the road in Topeka, and makes a living out of selling automotive parts. Very good guy to know. There are also a number of CK5 guys in Nebraska, they trade sheet metal around on a semi-regular basis. A bunch of them will be coming to Manhattan in a few weeks (3?) to enjoy Tuttle Creek ORV area. Would be a good idea to snag a few of them and show them what you have, they will be able to talk you through your issues much more thoroughly in person than can be done via text.

But welcome to the club, this should be interesting.

Hey, glad to see someone so close. We were just in Alma on Saturday!

Yeah, I would keep an eye out on Craig's List to see if you can find any good donors. Also hit me up some time, there are a couple of local salvage yards that may have something. They have older inventory, that may work out.

Thanks a bunch :-) im going to contact the gentleman you suggested. I enjoy going to salvage yards....but it's more fun when you actually have a target item or items. I found a broken section on the bell housing right where the transfer case (i think thats the piece) bolts in. Im gonna post a pic....im wondering if it could be repaired by welding.

It's not the transfer case if you cracked the bell housing (and vice versa). Did you verify that it is actually a 3-speed automatic TH400 in there? Though common in heavier trucks, that would not be a stock transmission for your rig.

i havent verified yet...im gonna take a picture of the broken part and look up the numbers on a bunch of parts that I dont know what they are...which sets of numbers id the transmission?

is the part that bolts up to the bell housing the transmission itself? It just dawned on me that I removed a gear shifting lever....but Im not sure exactly where from...lol...maybe that piece that bolted up to bellhousing...

Easiest way is to look at the pan shape and count bolts.

Posting pictures is good, too.

Take pictures. Yes, the bell housing sits between the engine and the transmission, housing either a clutch/flywheel assembly or a torque converter. But both the TH400 and TH700R4 have bell housings integrated into the case casting, so you couldn't remove the bell housing, the entire tranny bolts to the engine.

For example, here is a picture of a TH400 that I have right now. The bell-shaped opening at the left is the bell housing, but it's integrated into the rest of the transmission case (the other 3/4ths of the picture). This is a 4x4 transmission, so a transfer case bolts on the back (right) end and splits the torque between front and rear axle. The shifting lever is the pivot point near the middle of the case. The other side has a vacuum line (on a TH400), the dip stick tube, and the oil cooling lines.

obviously it looks different from the top than it does from the bottom, but I just want to be sure we know what you're referring to, you seem to be mixing up terms.

yes..thats the piece that is broken....in this picture....the right side end....where the next piece bolts on....just under the red bucket or gas can in this pic.......the break is right in the threaded hole so as to reveal the bolt when attached

im about to go out now and check it out and take some pics

Ok, the transmission case is cracked. And yes, that is where the transfer case bolts on (though most transmissions have an adapter in between the two cases). You can't reasonably replace the case of the tranny, so welding is probably your best bet for dealing with this kind of break.

Unless the break is in the adapter, then you can probably just replace the adapter.

I'll wait for pictures.

thanks for the help...i wont respond too quickly if you respond to these pics...im off to do my honey-do list....thanks again man.

Welding or finding a used one on craigslist. 700R4's are very common in my area. 350's and 400 everyone wants a pretty penny for them.
