LSX454 swapped 95 BASS burb.

Little lower, little cooler, bigger sounds.
Got the roll done.IMG_20260315_144056582_HDR.jpg
This area had been flat, like the green line.
Probably wouldn't have been noticed. But wasn't hard to fix.IMG_20260315_144056582_HDR~2.jpg

This part looks new almost after putting real primer on it.

Now the wheel arch. Which scares me lol.
I've done ok so far, but that's a BIG weld seem to make, and it's right up in everyone's face.

This one will NOT be done in 1/2" tacks lol.
Back to spots and air.

Trimmed down the part I'm using. IMG_20260317_171758682_HDR.jpgIMG_20260317_171803915_HDR.jpg

Looked weird at the back, and I got worried. But after actually cutting out the old part it smooths right down and fits great.IMG_20260317_171809532_HDR.jpg

One little inner spot to fab and put in before I can do it though.IMG_20260317_185733342_HDR.jpg

That's tomorrow's project.

Might have gotten farther today, except I slept till 2 pm  lol

My dumb azz forgot to actually PAINT it f before putting the outer on and tacking.... :doah:

But... All tacked up and in progress :thumb:IMG_20260318_203306578_HDR.jpg

Done till like Sunday night.

Nope.... No... Too much beer.... I DID paint it first:woot:
I remembered something lol

Guess I lied.... Couldn't sleep, so I went back to the shop about 3:30am and got another 45 min of welding in before I had to leave for work lol.
Real close to flap disc time :D

I hope this seem is easy enough to blend.... Starting to have doubts lol.IMG_20260319_043753846_HDR.jpg

That's a lot of grinding you have to do. Don't get it too hot while doing that either.

I slide the grinder side to side across the whole line, 6-8 passes I stop, and do something else for a few minutes, or move to the tacks inside the lip, etc. then come back, and do it all again lol.
I have my grandbabies till Sunday night now. And can't grind in there after about 9. So now I DO have to wait till Sunday evening. Lol.

Once this is smoothed and primed, I'll get it on the other side of the shop and get the doors off for the passenger rocker.
Perfect time to do the endura pins and bushings as well.

After that's done, and since I have them, I'll tackle the new driver's door hinges.

The last part before final whole body primer, is taking out all the little factory rivnut deals in the roof. That used to mount the luggage rack.
Really not looking forward to that. But after all this, maybe it won't be as terrible as I had assumed . :dunno:

Guess I should call them grand kids now, they'll be 3 and 6 this year lol.
Time flies

Have you used a roloc disc? I hear those are good for not putting to much heat into the welds on sheet metal.

I'll look it up, not sure if I've heard of it.

I use a 40 when im first starting on the top of the weld, then about half way down l, (usually two 6-8 sweep sets), I'll switch to 80 so I don't over grind. And when it gets down to detail, 120.
When I get to the one 120, its 4"-6" inch areas taking my time to not get too warm.
So far, as long as I don't grind enough to change color or the metal, I haven't caused any issues.
If it takes me all afternoon to smooth it out, it won't bother me any lol.

Ah, I have some of those lol.

I'd think they'd be worse, because you're working on one small area at a time :dunno: . And to me, they're harder to control.

Not sure just what I heard, I think because it’s not a hard surface the disc will fold on it so not a lot of pressure is on it maybe?

I've already been thinking of that lol.
I think I'm going to make one with wood, out of 3/4".
Then make 3 or 4 copies with the router, and glue them all together for a longer block.

Also thought about making one by putting tape on the other sides fender, and laying out a 4x6 fiberglass spot, and glassing a handle into it. With some stiffening ribs of 1/4 dowel or steel.

All of which I have.
It can't be TOO long though as it's all a giant curve. So it may not really work :dunno:
The main 2 body lines it'd be great. But I'm afraid this may be too much of an arc

I'll see how it goes and if sanding the filler goes bad, I'll make up both versions and see which one I like.:dunno:

I had about 5 minutes to play with it when I got off work, and quickly realized that it's going to be rough keeping the flap disc on the weld and not into the actual fender. It's doable, but the way I was holding it would make and OSHA dude faint.

I'll try the Rolocs and see if that goes ok.

Last time I tried anything intricate with them it was tough. So :dunno:
Smooth areas clearing rust went ok, but when I tried rough stuff it wanted to grab and twist and jump around.
I'll go at it with a different stance and see.

So.....
I'd say it came out pretty frickin straight. Lol.
Haven't done the bondo yet. Just grinding and a primer coat. With a trial coat of "guide coat" at the end.

On to the bondo.

Probably tomorrow lol
