Im just thinking of mild trail wheeling, and traction while in snow/light skim type mud.... in a 10b..... I know it's not ideal and what I SHOULD go with... but with 33"s, a 10b, and very conscious skinny pedal control is it going to be THAT bad?

And whats the best one to get.....?

I just don't have the cash to do the right thing right now and this one legger stuff sucks.

You will be absolutely fine with a lunchbox and 33s. I ran that setup for a few years and gave it hell and never had one issue with the 10b. There is nothing wrong with that setup strength wise to me.

I've ran a few now. I blew up 2 of 4 lock rights. Both were warranted. The other couple survived quite nicely. I wouldn't be worried if I were you and the plans you have for it.

is a 10b truck diff an 8.5" or 8.875"

My brother ran a lockright in his rear 10b for a long time (believe they are 8.5's). Was running 35" TSLs and never had a problem with it. I installed a spartan in my front d60 and freaking love it. I actually think the spartan is a little stronger design after messing with some lockright's too. I think either one is a good product though.

And for what you say you will use it for, I think it will be good for ya :thumb:

Yep . . .

I have the same setup and plan to get either a No-Slip (had one before in my '06 Tundra and liked it) or the Spartan about which I've heard good things. I may even do one front and rear.

I originally wanted pure beef for my burb.... but ive come to realize that I just cant bring myself to beat it. I hate getting stuck, and breaking crap is even worse. So soft wheeling it is lol... (usually lone trucking it :doah:)

I'll have to see what I can find for my axle... don't look hard to install and I'd like to have it done before winter is in full snow swing. May be late on that though:rolleyes: snow on the ground for a week almost isn't a good sign lol

Btw I really like my powertrax no slip up front. It's supposedly the upgraded version of the lockright that is much smoother.

Im running 33s , 10b w/ strange chromoly axles , 4:10 gears and Loc-Rite locker. I run it on the street as a DD, no problems. Does great off roading .

I have 3 lockrights in service now...D60, D44, D27..no issues with any of them

your running lockrights dave?? I figured you had detroits in the maiden?

My biggest fear with em was locking up at the wrong time and CAUSING a major failure lol. they way people talk about 10b's you'd think there glass:rolleyes:

never broke an axle or carrier in anything yet though so either im lucky or just not hard enough on stuff:haha: I think im gonna go for it and see what happens.... im going to wait on the regearing thing till I do a motor swap too... see how the next motor works with my gears.... maybe ill be just fine axle wise with these added.

thanks guys...... pretty much set on it now.... think ill do the rear Spartan soon and see if I can get the OT for a front one before the years out. definitely will if I get my Rav4 sold:waytogo: hopefully it goes soon

$450 more a month for my burb n Lincoln :woot:

Ten bolt rears are 30 spline. Ten bolt fronts pre 87 or so are 28 spline IIRC.

10 bolts rears are not all 30 spline, they are 28 like the front till the change was made late 88????

How is steering with a front Spartan? I'm attracted to that option for my D60, but not sure if I'll be hating the steering when traction is good in rocks.

Steers fine with assist. But you'll notice a difference in turning radius, at least I do.

I have a Lock Right in the rear of my 1982 K30 3+3, and the front of my 1990 K5, and I am HARD on stuff.

Of course a 14bff and a Dana 60 are a little different than a 10 bolt.

It was '89 when front 10b's went from 28 spline to 30 spline

You will definaltly want assist with any front traction aid. For driving around on the street, it won't matter, but when you are in the dirt with front locked in, you will fight it for sure without assist

I thought both were 28 spline in my '82?

Yah I screwed that up. I must have had a different axle than the stock one in mine as it had 30 spline.
