M-1028 cucv?

congrats, ive had nothin but love for my 6.2 since i got it. despite my current issue with the hard fuel line.

That...is either a M1031 maintenance truck or a M1028 converted into one.

Nice. Does it have the generators and compressors in it?

Nah the army kept all that lol,but I have a honda generator and a 20 gallon 5hp compressor I can carry in it.

Huh...yours is an interesting bird then.

www.SteelSoldiers.com if you ever want to talk to guys that are really good with the military specific side of the trucks. Wouldn't ask them dick about the regular GM components of it though.

very, as the 1031s had pto 205s (which i would love to have). Sounds like someone had a whole mess of extra parts hangin around

Probably a conversion that started as a 1008. The military built more than one out of trucks and parts they had on hand. Some of the maintenance trucks had the beds off of the Dodge M88x series.

Yeah I got it from a guy who gets alot of these things. He has a whole tow yard of cucvs and duce-n-a halfs. He had another truck out there that had the 205-pto in it with the generator still intact that started up. It had the box truck bed too but the box on it was taller than the one that I bought. The pto-205 would have been nice instead of the 208 but mainly what I wanted was the front limited slip on the one that I got. He told me that he could turn it into a pick-up bed if I wanted but I wanted the box truck body to carry my tools and compressor in. Also this guy has ALOT of cucv axles some in VERY nice shape that he will sell fairly cheap.

reeeeeheeeeeheeeeeeeeally. and your in VA???? dont suppose this CUCV yard is also in va.... contact info????

Nope its in manville NJ. I won the truck in an ebay auction. The sellers name was offroad ritchie. Yep I drove that thing all the way from NJ. back to the hills of haymarket VA. at about 50 MPH lol. if you check his auctions he probly still has one or two of the dana60s that are in real good shape with the red primer on the brakes. He offered me his finest dana60 for $800.00 looked as good as something boyce equipment would send you.

I bought the 60 I used in my truck off of him, nice guy to deal with. The 60 I got came out of a 1028 also that had only 13000 miles on it :eek1:. All I did was some fresh brakes then installed it. Everything else looked new. I paid $850 but that was around the beginning of last year.

Yeah he had had me in and out of the dmv in about 30 minutes, had his mechanics change out the heater core and check the fluids in everything including the t-case-n-axles. they also greased all the fittings and gave me 5 extra 1-ton tires and wheels for my jimmy that will pass inspection. I wish he was closer to VA.

hey man, thanks so much for the tip, i hit him up on ebay, and am currently negociating for a DRW front D60 for a sick price. Just gotta get paid first.

Was looking at more aggressive tires for the M1028 today. I think im sold on a set of 7.50-16 LT primex trakmaster bias tractions. From what I can gather they are 32" tall and pretty skinny. They look like a really good set of pizza cutters. Bet you could really mess up your lawn with those lol. Im gonna call the local tire dealers tomorow and see if any of them can get a set. Ive looked at a bunch of similar tires and think those are the best ive seen so far. If anyone knows of similar tires up to 33" let me know, just as long as they are LESS than 10" wide thanks.

You could try some 255/85R16's. Right about 10-10.5" wide and meant for use under 3/4 and 1 tons.

I originaly started looking at tire sizes like that but no one makes them in a REAL heavily cleated tread. I finally found some threads on another website where toyota fj people are useing the old type supper agressive treaded tires. Never would have expected to find people useing 10 or more ply truck tires on compact 4X4s. Im surprised they can even air down. Doesnt seem like the FJs would weigh enough to moosh those type of tire down even if there is no air in them at all lol. All the heavily cleated tires that I have found seem to go by the old type tire sizes like 7.50-16 or 9.00-16. There are some WILD tires out there in those type of sizes.
