M1009 Standard Shift Build(The Greatest Adventure)

Alright, now time for some Colorado pics. Kansas(first picture) was my favorite state to drive through. I enjoyed the scenery the most. Of course, I drove through the entirety of Nebraska in the dark so I can't say much about it. Iowa was really hot and most of the towns I went through were sketchy. I think Indiana had the most expensive diesel at $4.40. I won't make the mistake of filling up in that state again if I can't help it. I filled up for $3.69 in Colorado to put that in perspective. New York was the second most expensive state at $4.29.

The other pictures are from Gold Camp Road. This is an old railroad bed that leads up to the mining towns of Victor and Cripple Creek. I played out here so long I almost ran myself out of diesel (because I was silly and headed out with half a tank). I put my spare can in my tank for the first time ever. There are a bunch of little side trails to explore. I didn't do anything hardcore because I was alone. After I got off the trail I had a 50 some mile drive down winding roads in the dark that was pretty exciting. I hope my new light bar gets here soon.

Good stuff Rich :waytogo:

So am I correct in assuming that you are with out top on your travels ( cant bring myself to ask if your "topless") ? :D

Totally topless. I was out driving until about midnight last night and it actually gets cold out here so I need to start carrying some warm clothes. I'm going to ditch/sell my soft top when I get home. I think long term I would like a cage with a safari style cloth top for rain.

No more today. I feel like i'm running 56k. I've been uploading pics since the first post I made this morning.

Here is a short list of things I want to do when I get home.

-Hood Pins: After watching my hood wobble for like 2000 some odd miles it gets me thinking. I also want to re-glue it to the framework.

-New rear locker: I will just get another Spartan. I like the one in the front and it was easy to install. My gov lock only seems to work sometimes now. This could open a whole can of worms in terms of feature creep with side projects. I really don't anticipate running over 35s so I may get chromoly shafts at the same time. I'm sure there are lots of 10 bolt naysayers on here that think this is throwing good money after bad.

-Slip yoke eliminator: I would feel a lot more comfortable out here on the road knowing I can wreck my rear driveshaft and still get off a trail.

Now the dream list in order

-Rear Bumper: I want to make one that matches my front. I want two trailer hitches for towing while running accessories like a bicycle rack.

-Roll Cage: I'm hoping kerts comes out well built and economical

-Underdrive: I think it could make a huge difference in the everyday drive ability of my truck. I don't think axle gears are a good solution, because my 4th gear is perfect at flat highway speeds. I really need a gear in between 3rd and 4th. If I had unlimited funds and was starting over I would have done an nv3500 with a doubler or the magum ord box.

-Tube Doors: I want to run either some plexiglass or cage on them to keep things inside my truck. i.e.: the dog.

Great pictures !

Once I finally finish my Blazer a cross country trip is at the top of my to do with it list.....most likely it will involve Blazer bash 18' .

Give me the word and I will bring a fixed yoke 32 spline 208 to RC

I would love to have the time to get to blazer bash, but unless it's before Labor Day weekend I think it is doubtful.

There is so much wheeling out here I want to just leave my truck here, fly home, and fly out to wheel it.

Did you get that other t-case you were talking about to get it all together? I still need to find a ram charger for the driveshaft.

Ive got the other case, haven't had time to mess with it due to work :doah:

I need to hit some yards soon, I will keep an eye out for shafts

If you want to run a Spartan or any other lunchbox style locker you'll have to get an open carrier first. The gov bomb is a one piece carrier. So while you're replacing the carrier you might as well get a Detroit :deal:

Also I've had to pull my rear slip yoke shaft and drove home like that. It was awfully messy but I got home only missing some fluid :doah:

Ok, I didn't know that about the carrier. Tell me more about the Detroit. Does this include a carrier? I don't really know much about them.

This may be a silly question, but can I move my front carrier to the rear? Then I could get a selectable up front. I'm wondering if I'm going to end up spending that much $ I'd rather spend it up front.

Why put more money up front? You only use it part time but the rear is all the time.
But yes you can swap your carriers front to rear.

Because I am unsure of the long term future of my rear.

for the price of a Detroit for a 10bolt you could have a 14 in there w/ a Detroit.

With diesel torque and the manual trans I wouldn't even consider spending a single dime on the 10b rear. When you are ready for 35s just plan on a 3/4 ton 8 lug swap. That way you can swap over your Reid knuckle to the 8 lug 10b front and whether the rear is sf or ff either one will hold up to 35s and how you use the truck.

Yea, I didn't know about the carrier. I wouldn't have minded just throwing a spartan in the rear for 200$, but this is getting complicated and sounding expensive whichever way I will to go.

I wouldn't put money in the ten bolt rear rich. I'm sure I'm my case I could build it and be fine in sand.

But you do rocks and alot harder wheeling.

I really hope this doesn't turn into a discussion like the one about your rear end :doah:
