M1009 Standard Shift Build(The Greatest Adventure)

M1009 Standard Shift Build

2x4x.120 wall. I read a of people's posts who say to use 1/8 thick. That's what I ordered but this is what showed up at my house. I don't know if the two thicknesses are considered the same?

Awesome. I read somewhere that they are the same... Did you order it from a local place or an online distributor?

Relatively local. They deliver free of charge with minimum order of 12 feet but they cut it in half for me.

Nice. I see square tube rockers in my future also as rust is starting to poke through. Did the same thing on the S10 I built, worked awesome when the rocks came up and tried to grab the truck.

Installed!

All the square tube I've bought is .120 (I think). People just call it 1/8". It may be different for chromoly maybe.

Diggin it Rich. This thing has come a long way since I saw it when I picked that grill up from you

Haha I'm trying. I'm wondering if I have time to cut into the drivers side before rc. I may be diddle diddle dumpling with one shoe off. Whoever comes with me will get a nice new seat too.

Yeah, I am in the same boat. I don't wanna cut too much and wind up having no floor wheeling out there :D

No luck on Ramchargers yet, I hit one of the big (and cheap$$) yards yesterday on my way home but struck out on everything.
On the 208, I will know on tuesday for sure, but I think I may be able to offer it as a complete 32spline unit. I traded a buddy a spare 27 spline 208 I had and never picked up the the 32 spline unit he swapped out (he went from a 400 to a 700 trans). As long as he still has it, if your interested I can put that one together with my back half and it would be a bolt in swap for you.

Any luck with the 208? I saw Adam is starting to orbit.

My rausch creek to do list:

Put passenger floor in
-fix drivers side optional
Install degree shims in front spring pack?
Clearance crossmember for front driveshaft
New tranny mounts
Bolt in a toolbox for spares
Get an inspection sticker
-also optional as rausch creek is not in Massachusetts

I think some of my alignment issues may be coming from the angle of my axle. My drive shaft is at about a 16 degree angle. The pinion is about 2 degrees. The bottom of my knuckles are at about 13 degrees, but the opposite of my drive shaft so \ vs / if that makes sense.

Talked to DIY and ordered some 6 degree shims. Apparently something inside my custom front springs likes to eat centerpins. The original must have gone in with some seriously abusive force. You can see it was just about skinned the whole way in and I think something sharp protruding inside.

My axle is attached with over a week to spare!

Someone must have tried to beat the center pin in without having the leaves aligned and clamped together good.

Now you've got me wondering whether I need a shim to make my truck steer better. I don't have any shims, but I just have the cheap spring packs with three thick leaves per pack though. My spring packs don't look as thick (tall) overall as yours do. I don't know if that has something to do with it or not. Have you driven it yet to see if the steering has changed?

Haha no I haven't driven it yet. I'm kindof having project attention deficit right now. I currently have half a floor.
