M1028- [under new management]

Did you see my factory tach install thread? It has some useful info in it.

Martin

I did not Sir. Though in my iPhone googling I stumbled upon c60 tachs with fuel gauges at the bottoms. pretty neato. Got a link to your thread?

I found a diagram of cucv wires at the plug. haven't even able to ascertain how different the cucv plug is to a civvy idiot light plug...

I'm kind of jumping back and forth from thing to thing here.. Turns out the shaft Johnny gave me is 32 spline. not sure if that's going to be a good or bad thing yet, but that's the same as my 208 OP, so maybe the stars will align here...

Ok new short shaft is perfect length it seems, u joint is correct width for axle, but bearings are not big enough diameter to fill yoke and straps properly. I know this is no surprise, I just wish I could identify yoke sizes more easily. Sizes don't seem to be stamped anywhere so I don't really know what I even need to come up with as far as conversion joints and stuff goes. 447 joint? no idea what that actually means, and this is just the back half. not sure if I'm going to need another 447 to adapt the forward shaft to my slip yoke. ideally, and again this isn't new to anybody but me, I'd like to end up with a setup that I could just hook up to whatever size my slip yoke is on my 32spl 208, and have it drop in to whatever the Ujoint size is on my 70. I'd have to have the baby front shaft custom made either way, but having an off the shelf back shaft would be a huge plus to me.

Got the gauges in.. Everything seems to be about right, except my left turn signal indicator, 4x4, and 24volt military gauge won't light up/ register anything. The oil and temp gauges sit at about a third of the way through the range- I figured they'd be pegged one way or the other. Volt meter indicates between 13 and 18. My "Gen 1" light is now the choke light, and I don't have anything that lights up as the previously known "Gen 2", and I'd hazard a guess that's why the other amp? Volt? gauge doesn't register..

Everything I read said to isolate the "orange wire", but I'm still not confident everything is as it should be. What it should be is focking 12 volts.

I'm parking it in the street tonight in case it catches fire.

That's pretty good info fer sure. I might have to dig into it again and verify placement on some of my things. I made one new ground but I think maybe I need more.

Anyone know whether or not this PS pulley will fit mah diesel? It's double, and it's nice and small. I know all the pumps are all similar, but don't know about the alignment.. Was going to try and get one from John, but Fegley raped every single one that he had apparently.

Luck strikes! I remembered I had a ps pump/ and 2wd box in storage that I yanked off a truck about 10 years ago and as luck would have it, it's a double groove 5.75 pulley. It should spin the pump much better than the stupid stock 6.5 pulley. I never even bothered to degrease it, I just threw it and the box in a milk crate and filed them away. Not sure what I was thinking by leaving the hoses all connected but the milk crate helped things out as far as load carrying goes.

Everything went better than expected!

Edit: Just cross referenced the part number with the one in the fleabay auction above... and it's the exact same one lol. whouda thought.

I don't have a puller. I got this one off the pump by taking it to auto zone and making them take it off for me- Maybe someday I'll actually do something myself?

When you think you can get me that starter? Figure out something I can machine for you so I don't feel like I'm stealing from you..

most places have pullers you can borrow or rent. Not sure where mine is any more.

Diff eq is kicking my ass and dyno day at the shop it sunday. It maybe a bit.

Hmmm. If I'm gonna journey my way up to Bradish I'm gonna need to put together a list of parts I can buy off of you. And a time machine.

Where we're going, we don't NEED roads..

I think I'm going to have to rebuild that window, the stripping in the tracks is all bunched up and I can't even get the thing to open- any suggestions? I definitely would like to use it.

Emprovised a ramp to get my heavy ass snowblower up into the truck so I can "winterize"? it and get it put in storage.. couple what you see with a tow strap around the handles and wrapped around the roll bar as a safety line. It was a one man operation, or I would have taken a pic in progress lol. Pretty handy if I do say so myself.

It's why some call me Mike "series of ropes and pullies" Schutte.

Some progress.. sortof. I'm kind of in the "make a big mess and hope I didn't just screw myself" phase, but I'm trying my damndest to do a few things to this that I've wanted to do for awhile now, hopefully it will be done in time for our trip to Tuttle over memorial weekend.

No spoilers yet, but it involves hacking off my existing retarded exhaust, buying an extra trans/Xfer case crossmember, and the little guy below.

The scrap yard closed by the time I realized I think I can come up with something pretty doggone slick, I just hope the driveline gods are with me.

We'll see tomorrow.
