M1028- [under new management]

It'll look fine as long as you tape it off good. It's hard to screw up flat spray paint.

I think I want to spray bomb this thing solid OD green. The old dark WWII green. The Camo is kind of irritating.. Thoughts?

Here is my 1028 back when it was green, sold it to buddy and he painted it black a few weeks later :doah:

I think it looked awesome green

^^This! I dig it! Except I'd probably go with the darker OD green from WWII. And a black star on the door to match my black rims and roll bar. Green grille and brush guard.

Martin- I've seen that K5- I'm hoping to hold out for something thats nearly bare bones tub and frame so I don't have to pay for a bunch of crap that I'm not going to use anyway.

Hypocritically enough, this k5 looks sexy. I would totally take it if I had the coin. The wheels suck, but I'm a sucker for grey and I would be ok with throwing away a bunch of crap I didn't need on this one. lol

At any rate, the K5 movement could be very expensive, so I think I'll just stick with the ol' M1028 for now.......

What are you doing online? Shouldn't you be returning from the paint store. A plastic tote full of hot water to keep the paint flowing in the cold weather. You could be done already!:popcorn:

Just a thought, if you have access to a sprayer and a compressor, you can paint it in your yard/driveway. Super easy, still have to tape off just like spraypaint, but you wont wear your thumbs out, and it wont take much. Alot cheaper too. I bought a gallon for my Sub, I coated it probably 7 times and still have enough to paint it again, and probably again. I used a quart of clear and did it 3 times. It doesnt take much, and its so much faster.

Btw, if memory served me, it took me 18 cans to do a longbed pickup, give or take a few.

I spose my Dad does work at a resto shop in Lincoln with a paint booth, but getting the truck in there could prove to be difficult.. It's always full of 455SD Trans Ams or whatever they are. The guy who owns the place is a Firebird nut, and I absolutely love going in and ogling at all the money lol

I'll have to talk to him and see if we could make it a weekend project. Believe it or not I hadn't even thought of it!

I did mine in the yard with a 20g compressor and an old bottom feed spray gun. Easy greasy. I had a lot of bugs in the paint as I did it in the summer, but a lil wet sanding and viola. Not show quality but not to shabby

That would certainly be sooo much easier- probably way cheaper than a case and a half of bombs too. I'll have to try to make it happen.

Yep, I bought a gallon of Rustolem from a local store Im in good with, and they custom made me a nice red, got it for 40$, bout a quart of matte finish clear for 30$. I went with the matte so its not like a show car that shows every single scratch, so my nice red is kinda dull now, but it buffs out and doesnt show swirls and such like crystal clear clear does. Like I said, it took me longer to tape off the barge than it did to paint and clear it.

Well thats just redonkulaous. Ours is 1.99 a can, and you can only buy a handful, and the ID you now, as graffiti is a big concern in the closest Wallmarts town. The joys of living within driving distance of one of the worst per capita ghettos in the US. When a classic comedy "National Lampoons Vacation" displays tires and wheels ripped off a station wagon at a railroad crossing in your town, you know theres problems. And I could show yall right where that crossing is, used to drive it for work. :haha:

Odd. I grab a whole case, and they have never questioned me at any Wal Mart in Nebraska. Of course I live about an hour from any Wal Mart.

Martin

Just paint the dang thing with somethin! Lol. I like the od green over black, just my opinion lol.

Thats the joys of living out and about I guess, its pretty rural here still, but very close to ST Louis, and the outskirts. But property taxes are so high here keeps the riff raff at bay. Anymore, now that Im older, they dont hassle me much if I wear a long sleeve shirt when Im in there, when Im in short sleeves its a different story.

I have never been a fan of OD green, I like "regular" colors myself, reds, blues, greens, yellows ect.
