Magik's 1987 Jimmy - Jiminy

Dunlop stood behind my tires cracking but I was charged for actual tread wear.

I had 1/16" wear on 2 tires and 1/8" wear on 2 tires. I had to pay $88 for all the tires plus $100 for mounting and balancing. The down side was they broke off one of the rear lug bolts.

I got Jiminy into the shed for repairs. I need to work on the brakes. They freeze up when it gets cold in the winter. I also wanted to inspect the gov-loc. I did not find any metal shavings or pieces. I was somewhat surprised considering how it gets beat in the deep snow. I was disappointed to find the numbers 11 41 6 74. I was told it was a 4.11 when I bought it and driving rpms indicated it was a 4.56. The 11 41 means it is a 3.73. Does anyone know what the 6 74 mean?

I got one caliper off my Dana 44 8 lug then took it to NAPA. They were able to match it up with a mid 80s half ton Chevrolet caliper so I am set to go.

I pulled a gas tank strap to seal a weep with silly putty but hit a gusher. I spent hours jacking around getting gas tranferred and cleaning up the leaking mess. I had just filled up and the leak was on the bottom of the tank. :zombie9::zombie9::zombie9:

That does suck:eek1:

The aftermath of yesterdays disaster. Now I have to decide if I try to seal the old tank, buy a new tank or buy a new tank, sender unit and fuel pump.

I removed the gas tank today. My transmission jack made the process much easier. I ordered a new tank, straps and sender unit with fuel pump made by SPECTRA from rockauto.com.

I got my new 31 gallon tank, straps and sender unit with fuel pump today. I inspected the frame and found a crack and rust issues by the driver's side rear spring mount. I spent way too much time getting 4 of the 6 rivots out of the spring mount so I can repair the damaged section.

Gas tank and parts.

I made a repair plate today. It looks like I will have to do a temporary repair until I get my wood supply for next year out of the woods. Then I will have to do the entire back section of the frame.

My frame was rusted by the driver's side rear spring mount. I cut out the rust and built a brace for the rusted area. All the bolts on the vertical section of the frame use existing holes that were in solid frame sections.
