I made these a few years back. I cut alot lower than yours though but I frames mine in with some 1" sq tube then plated top in with some 14ga or something

I might cut them a little bit lower. did you have any trouble welding on the doors? I tried welding on another junk and it just kept burning holes throug the metal. I was using my friends little hobart flux core/ wire feed welder on lowest setting.

I used a 250a esab just played with the settings till it welded good. Used 045 wire which really isn't optimum but did the god once i figured out the settings. Key is to weld a smidge then move down a bit and weld there and keep moving back and forth

Mnorby,

Can you post a picture of your door handle? It looks just like you left part of the handle and the push button to open the door?

here ya are. its a freightliner door handle. My original plan was to make a canvas snap on door to fit the half door so you could open from inside or out still.

Updates?

I just butt welded everything, they came out a little warpy,so youmight wanna frame'um. And unless you make a access hole, you should weld the lock set-up inside. I used that lock rod to open the doors.[just pull up that silver ball.]IMAG0017.JPG

What are the odds of banging your elbow on that sharp corner near the outisde door handle.....???

I bet it'd hurt like hell. Even if you could only fit a small radius there, it might save you a lot of pain later on.
