Makita Ion Lithium XLT's

Ive really had my eye on the new Milwaukee M12 mini line. Nice 3/8s drive ratchet and some super nice small drills and impact guns.

That being said I have some Makita Lith Ion stuff and happen to like the dewalt stuff I bought my dad better.

i love my new makita stuff! ive got a 1/2" drill and a 3/8" impact, almost a year now still kicking ass!

Really!

I have the older 18v Dewalt setup and the new Makita Ion stuff. Completely different power supply and strength I know, but the QUALITY goes the Makita. The little Milwaukee Ion stuff is nice as well, but haven't had much time on it. At this point, it would be really hard for me to buy another Dewalt, even the Ion stuff. Though I must say, it seems the new Dewalt and Milwaukee drills are quite similar IIRC:whistle:

i have that miluakee mini 12v set too, theyre really nice to have. especially for interior work.

My father-in-law has and swears by the Makita. I'm a Milwaukee guy myself. Both are decent, but it's a Chevy/Ford thing, and we all know Chevy is better... LOL

Dont get me wrong I like my Makita stuff, maybe its cause its old. My dad bought a medium size starter kit from Costco when 18v came out (pretty sure at least), musta been when I first had the chevy in like 07 or 08. It came with a 3/8 drill, 1/4 hex impact, sawzall, light, and carrying bag w/ 2 batteries. I loved it to death, impact driver still kicks ass, the drill is beat and its my fault from drilling hole saws with it, sawzall isnt worth **** for metal but its not their fault its a cordless sawzall...

absolutely love my makita gear, batterys last a good while, nice and lightweight, feels comfortable in your hand. my 1/4 impact took a 70 foot fall and its still going strong!

Just saw the other day that Milwaukee finally came out with a charger/radio combo. That's been the only reason I've held on to dewalt. Wonder why none of the other manufacturers have seen that.

There's also a deal with Milwaukee right now that you can turn in a brokenly competitors tool and two batteries and get $100 back.

If I even get the chance to go buy more cordless stuff it's going to be Makita.

You couldn't pay me to take Makita stuff, had too much of it go bad over the years, corded and cordless. I'm stuck on Dewalt now, not a single problem.

Really!? I've only owned one Makita item and it never had any problems. Have a 18v Dewalt cordless drill now and it's been beat on but still works fine too. I think just about any brand name cordless would do a good job. Whats the very best...??? Who really knows.

Honestly I think it comes down to what looks cool style wise, and has the color we like better lol! I just like the way the Makita stuff looks best. If Dewalt was more of a Corvette Bright Yellow and less school bus yellow they would sell more Dewalt stuff. :D I like Milwaukee corded stuff the best but their cordless stuff I've had was junk.

makita had a bad stretch for a few yrs.. they where real good a couple decades ago, than had some bad yrs and the recent stuff looks/sounds good again...

all the reviews i've read for the makita stuff have been outstanding... some of the milwaulee stuff, not so much surprisingly..

i've also read the dewalt radio sucks arse... i liked dewalt when it first came out, but i've been more leary in recent yrs with the "made for home depot" thing... but other than the radio, most of the reviews i've read on the newer stuff have been good..

i do like the diagnostic stuff they make 12v.. IR gun and vid stick look cool, both of which i lost in the storm.. but i think that would involve running 12's and 20's for the other stuff...

still undecided at this point, but I'm still leaning toward the makita after looking at the 3 lines...

i haven't looked at bosch yet.. to be honest, i've never been a huge fan of bosch stuff, but my old boss was big on em...

I am with Scott I have had Makita stuff before and I didn't like it.

I love my newer Milwaukee fuel drill ( they call it fuel for some reason).

Going to get several more bare tools in the same line and probably 2 more batteries.

Its amazing to me how fast the batteries charge. Less than 15 minutes

well, for decades, the variable speed Makita buffers dominated their market.. the milwaukees where always outstanding, just like their 1/2 drills, but they where heavy.. nice for a car hood, not so much a boat hull...

in recent yrs, the dewalts have stepped in.. but i've used em, and they don't seem nearly as tough as the milwaukees, or my last makita.. but some of the detailers swear by em.. i think it's because they are the cheapest...

i really want a "in-hand" demo of all 3.. i wonder if the home depot display ones are testable.. hmmmmm, i see that as a sunday morn commando run before all the idiots get out...

Last time I was in Home Depot they had several drills out that you could try plus a couple of the smaller impacts.

That is what made me pull the trigger on my milwaukee

Fuel=brushless. I think they also have a more advanced computer setup with the battery that probably improves performance a bit. I think they're probably the best performing ones out there right now, but the price is generally ridiculous. My preference is the makitas. They're the smallest and most ergonomic and performance wise they're still above the dewalts. If you've picked up the dewalt 1/2" impact and compared it to any other one, including ryobi, it feels like it was designed by Russians to fit a Polish hand. Also, the dewalt batteries suck unless you spend way more than market price on the lithiums, which are still behind the other two in design.

Dewalt makes a corded shop/ job site radio that charges your battery packs.

Anyone know if you can use one of the old radios to charge the Li batteries? I've got an older DeWalt drill and saw combo and the the second set of batteries are about shot. I've had it since '98 so I've gotten my money's worth, but its time for a replacement or I need to buy new bats and probably replace the brushes in the drill.

I'd like to upgrade to Li bats, but if the old radio won't charge them that is another expense.

the new makita stuff is brushless too.. I do remember the early dewalt 1/2" impact being a bit huge compared to my snappy... :haha:

i actually read a bunch of good reviews about the ryobi stuff, moreso for the DIY/home guy, as opposed to pro.. but their drill got good reviews and "best value"
