first I've checked out these posts Manny, let me say thanks for your service, and your help with the wounded.
second......great buildup, awesome engine. Keep the batteries, and tires off the floor though, and definitely keep them out of sight. I heard it wears them out just looking at em.
:haha:You know, funny you should say that! Tonight I was looking over the work on the axles, doing some touch ups and removed a broken breather valve on the D60, when I looked at the Swampers and had to do a double take. It looked as if I had no tread left at all. I even stuck my finger into the grooves to check the depth. I must be seeing things, or have MALLCRAWLING WITHDRAWAL! :doah:

Manny

Anyway, here's the big picture of the night. Man was this hard work! :D

Got it just in time to bring down to Mr. Janke's tomorrow to record video for the dyno test. I can pretty much guarantee everyone, a night at the movies with me. I am so excited that I will be able to video and present this rig buried to the doors in MUD! Or at least fun tryin'! :haha:

Better yet, stay tuned for the feature film: MALL CRAWLERS

Filmed on location in Malls across America. Written and directed by MuddinManny. Produced by Mall Crawlers Productions, Ltd., a subsiderary of MuddyBuddy Comedy Club.

Rated M for Malls

Thanks for the compliments. Remember, I am always open to suggestions.

Hey DD,

I haven't yet done any wheelin' here in the Killeen area yet. We have a few places to go...yada, yada, yada, legally. As far as my parts, everything I take off and don't use will be sold, so if there is something you need, let me know.

Thanks! Nice to find another MUDDER here in CC/Killeen area! :D

Oh, and you don't kneed to explain the meaning of budgetary "tight". I not only understand, I hear ya! :haha:

I'm off to Mr. Jankes' with my video camera in hand!

14 Bolt FF Revised-Professional Grade EZ-Off Oven Cleaner

Hey Y'all,

Okay, here's the first of a line of threads today...

14 Bolt FF Clean-up Revision:

I read somewhere that using EZ-Off Oven Cleaner on an axle after grinding does wonders. So I decided to try it. Well, if you haven't figured it out by now, I'm kinda balls to the wall about things, and I tend to be overly thorough. Some call it OBSESSIVE COMPULSIVE DISORDER. Anyhow, I jump in the Mustang and roll on down to the local Lowes, and I get the Professional Grade EZ-Off Oven Cleaner, two cans, like $3.98 apiece.

Upon return, I start to grind. And grind, and grind, and when I'm done grinding, a little wire brushing in the tight spots. About an hour's worth of work. Then it's spray time. Prep is easy. Just attach a rubber hose on the breather, and tape off the spindle's, and go spray happy!

Well, here are the pics.

This is what she looked like before I started. It's worse than it looks...

Here are pics after the grinder got through with it and EZ-Off applied...

I left the EZ-Off on the axle for about an hour, and whaaa-lah! Lookeee, lookeee... :D

I highly recommend the EZ-Off treatment. It really works. It took all the loose rust scaling off, and all the dirt. It's a good application in lieu of sand-blasting, and the EZ-Off does etch a little, to help with the paint biting down the line. You've seen the pictures of the progress in earlier posts, so I hope this has been beneficial for everyone. A little hard work never hurt and it's paying dividends.

Merry Christmas!

Removing the stock D60 Tie Rod and assembling ORD's HD Tie Rod with ends

Next,

I've loosely started to work on my Dana 60.

When I placed my order with ORD for their cross-over steering kit, I new that their 1.5" HD Tie Rod was just the ticket. My stock one was bent already, and in all my years of experience with Toyota's, the stock tie-rods were usually crap to begin with and bend easily; especially when getting crossed up in the rocks, or slammed on a rock. (See that's why I play in MUD. It's soft! :haha:)

Anyhow, I removed the stock tie-rod and assembled the ORD unit. The TRE's they supply are beefy as all can be. In fact, they are HUGE! I'll get a pic and post it. I laid the tie rod in place and adjusted the ends by eye as best as I could. She isn't fully attached, just used the included castle nuts. I'll tighten her up when I get ready to move this bad boy under the front. If anyone doubted the stoudtness of this beast, look no further. Proof is in the puddin', or, eh, pictures. Stephen and ORD did a real nice job on this product. If I bend it something's wrong!

Mighty big difference if you ask me. :eek1: Hope my dual steering stabilizer kit from Superlift will fit. If not, a BFH will do the job :D

MSD-8365 GM HEI Pro-Billet Distributor and Borgeson 935 Steering Linkage

Ever since I was a kid, I always got excited when the Post or UPS man delivered mail or package(s) for me. I knew I had a box of goodies waiting for me at Mr. Janke's.

My original OEM distributor with ACCEL Cap/Coil took a dump, so I had to upgrade. I got online to www.summitracing.com, and ordered up the best MSD had to offer: MSD 8365 GM HEI Pro Billet and the matching 8.5mm Super Conductor Wires, black with grey 90* boots. I can only say this: SAHHHHH-WEEEEEET! :wink1:

The MSD items are awesome. They look real good and I understand their performance is rated the best. We installed the distributor today and did the Dyno's (post forth-coming) and the engine ran like a champ. At the end of the session, we discovered that the distributor cap had two cracks: one on the mounting post area, and another about the middle of the span between the lock-down posts. Several of the guys at the shop said they had the same problem, so check your's before you fire it off! I called Summit, explaining the situation and that we ran and fired it off already. Summit came through for me. They warrantied the part and are shipping a new #84111 replacement free of charge, and they are supplying a call tag pickup from UPS to send the old one back. If that isn't great customer service I don't know what is!

Here are a few pics from a disposable. I have digital pictures and video of the install I'll post right here, so don't forget to come back and view it, okay? ;)

I also, through reading about steering slop in the old rag joint steering link, that XJ shafts were being used as viable replacements. So, I looked into it. Through searching posts, I discovered Borgeson's. I checked their web site and found that Steering Shaft 935 fit the ticket. I ordered it. Man what a difference! This is just as stoudt as ORD's Tie Rod. No more slop in the steering! Well worth it and Summit had it at a great price: $189.95.

Here are the pics:

The videos of installation are too long. Photobucket only allows 100MB and with editing, I can only get them down to 159. Sorry dude's.

Enjoy!

New Digital Pics of 383 on Dyno- 12/09/2006

Went down to Mr. Janke's today for the 2nd Dyno testing. Mr. Janke called me earlier in the week and wanted to open up the motor and adjust the internal timing of the cam to try and bring the big torque numbers down in the RPM range. In earlier posts, I showed the results of the first Dyno, which the torque was up in the 5000+ RPM range. Mr. Janke wanted to bring it down to start around 4000 RPM. He's the expert, so I agreed to let him try it.

When I got there, my 383 was mounted on the Dyno all ready to go. Here are some real good digital photo's of my baby.

Now mind you, a lot of the smaller stuff you see belongs to the Dyno set-up. My wires are not installed and they will be black with grey boots. I am also getting polished wire grips. Yeah, gotta dress it up for the MALLCRAWLING-right MUDDYBUDDY? :haha: My waterpump, which is a polished Edelbrock is not installed either. The carburetor connects will be straight polished piping as well. All in all, she will be quite the looker!

Okay, so now that the pretty stuff is outta the way, lets get to the Dyno video's and reports. Here are a couple of Dyno runs from inside the control booth.

I just love the roar of this motor. She's gonna sound awesome tearin' up the MUD pits and bogs!

We did a total of 9 runs today. Two runs were done using two different carburetor spacers: 1 open and 1-4 hole stacked. The thought was to create more of a draw of fuel and air. The combination didn't make any real difference +/- . Here are the results:

Run:

1. 40* MSD 850 CFM 80 Jet
2. 40* MSD 850 CFM 80 Jet
3. 38* MSD 850 CFM 80 Jet - Installed my new HEI
4. 36* MSD 850 CFM 80 Jet
5. 36* MSD 850 CFM 80 Jet - (Pass #2)
6. 36* MSD 850 CFM 80 Jet - Open Spacer w/ 4 Hole Spacer stacked
7. 36* MSD 850 CFM 80 Jet - Open w/ 4 Hole (Pass #2)
8. 40* MSD 850 CFM 80 Jet - (Back to open spacer only)
9. 40* MSD 850 CFM 80 Jet - (Pass #2)

HP/Ft Lbs by Run:

1. 511.5/528.1
2. 522.6/536.2
3. 526.5/535.1
4. 521.9/537.2
5. 519.6/535.9
6. 519.4/529.1 (Open w/ 4 Hole Spacer)
7. 523.8/537.7 (Open w/ 4 Hole Spacer - Pass #2)
8. 523.3/539.6
9. 532.0/537.9

+/- Margins: HP: +/- 20.50 Ft/Lbs: +/- 11.50

Notice how runs 6 and 7 showed no real increase in torque and the HP took a hit. This 383 definitely likes the open spacer alone.

Here are all 9 Dyno sheets printed out:

Looking over the comparisons in data between Dyno runs 1 and 2, the changes Mr. Janke made in the cam timing really made a difference. He brought the torque and horsepower lower in the RPM band which is exactly what he wanted. Right now he runs C16 (???) fuel so the adjustments will allow premium gasoline and not affect the overall figures.

Thankfully I will have my truck back around Christmas! What a present. Believe me when I say, I miss my truck. I'm not the same without her. Yet, she seems to have a new boyfriend... Dang! I thought my truck was faithful???

Thanks again for all the compliments and the suggestions! So much more to come!

lookin good, looking good! did the msd ignition help you any?

Yes, the MSD helped a ton! In fact, when I had the stock with ACCEL in the engine, the distributor was all jacked up and was actually self retarding the engine. Once the MSD was in, the numbers did a 180* turn, for the better!

I'm wondering how an MSD Ignition Box would do, or help???

Thanks for the compliment!

better get the 60 off the ground too! LOL thats ridiculous. tires dont go bad from being on the concrete. i have had tires stacked for near a year in my warehouse and i would still sell them as they were the same as a year ago.

You have to read the whole thread. They are crackin on a Hijack aboot batteries draining throught the case to the ground cause they where on the concrete instead of wood.
