Manual or auto?

Well, depending on your gear ratio, the 4500 would be a better bet for an engine that makes more power down low.

With the 465/3.42's/33's I turn about 2500RPM at 65MPH, which is higher than it needs to be. Since honestly, with the way I use the truck, (and the 465's low gear) I could get away with 3.08's or 3.23's, or just switch to the 4500 and get OD...just no need for me to be turning that many RPM's on the freeway.

Hey--86Chevybanshee--I wouldnt wreck your 700R4 tranny-just picked one up at the boneyard for a freind to install in a customers truck a few weeks ago,--cheapest one we could find with a 30 day gaurantee was 400 bucks--most of the yards we called wanted 500-600 bucks! /forums/images/graemlins/eek.gif /forums/images/graemlins/eek.gif /forums/images/graemlins/yikes.gif /forums/images/graemlins/yikes.gif /forums/images/graemlins/dunno.gif /forums/images/graemlins/screwy.gif I'd put yours in the want ads if its any good at all, then you'd have some $$ to help install the other drivetrain. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

that wouldnt be such a bad idea but it been running low on fluid thanks to a leakey slip yoke seal, and it shifts like crap, maybe ill throw some fluid in there and see if its any better. but thanks for the suggestion

I'll be using a sweet dual disc set up from McLeod (flywheel included). Hayes has some nice stuff too. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

I dont know about trucks but Centerforce used to make a decent clutch for a Camaro, Im sure somebody has had exerience with them on a mud truck......

I don't know if this will make a differance in your thoughts but my motor is not a real high RPM motor the most I have ever turned it is 4500. It was designed for low RPM power. /forums/images/graemlins/dunno.gif

1. It is just as hard to shift at 4500 RPM while you're on the throttle as it is 5500.

2. Most you ever turned was 4500? /forums/images/graemlins/thinking.gif

3. "Low RPM power" is an oxymoron, but I see what you were getting at.

That is why I made this post is to get input shifting in the mud and such.

I have and love the SM465. Having more control is so much of an advantage. The only downer is driving in city traffic. It is a PITA changing gears in that thing.
