May Rubicon trip

Yeah I forgot about north shore. I think its free to stay there. You never know though, if the weather is really nice they may open it sooner than the posted date. Tarp is a must have item. Im hoping to have the top off! :thumb:

So does that mean we are meeting at North Short campground?

Cold weather clothes (jackets, pants, blankets) or Summer time clothes. Wont know till couple days before, right? LOL
And I think I'm dragging my brother along, which is good, cause he can pack everything ahahaha

Yep north shore and that's the clothes I would expect to wear at night. It can be shorts weather during the day, we'll know more as we get closer.

More than likely that's where we'll meet but if possible we'll all drive up together. Yup winter at night and summer days lol.

Ok just checking back in here as we have about 3 weeks until the trip. Due to the nice weather it looks like loon lake campground will be open memorial day weekend which is after this trip but maybe they'll open even earlier.

As far as progress goes i think ill make it. Its going to be a tight squeeze but it looks possible.

I have a couple late nights planned, I should be good too :waytogo:

Yeah ive got a few of those and some sick days to burn up. Im a little nervous about taking something so untested on the rubicon. I know my drive train is pretty solid but ive made a lot of changes. There may be a chance i can test it next weekend or the weekend after that. Once its back together i plan on driving it to work just to get some miles on the new set up.

definitely need to drive the rig as much as you can before going. Then look over the vehicle for any issues and re-torque every nut and bolt.

Yeah thats the plan so far. If it works out ill probably drive it a few days in a row or maybe the whole week. I have a lot of stuff to do! If i get the sliders welded on, hydro assist working and get some decent tow points going ill be happy.

I need to pick up some spare stuff like belts too. Ill be bringing the leads for the stick welder just in case.

cool :waytogo:

I'm definitely prioritizing what needs to happen vs what I would like to have for the trip. Sliders and Assist will wait on my rig, neither is needed IMO.

Axle seals, ant-wrap and & new exhaust have to happen. Twin stick, FUSH and moving the shocks may happen but aren't necessary.

Yeah with these 40s i must have the hydro! Id really like to put a bar of some sort in the front of the truck to help with the frame flex from the steering box but maybe the hydro will alleviate most of that. Are you planning on driving the truck up there or towing?

I'm driving and if I had problems I could always leave the truck at the cabin, it's about 5-10 minutes from the Tahoe side trail head.

Hrm. Gonna keep an eye on this one. I'm going the next weekend so I'll have to see if I have the funds for a trip beforehand.

I've got the days off, just need to work on some maintenance before I go. It's tough when the truck isn't here and I don't have the room for it :( Hmmm, just thinking my neighbors are on vacation...might be able to park in their spot. Gotta check into that.

Ok cool. Im nervous but I see some sketchy vehicles make so I should be good!

Yeah roll with us! If you had an xj towing service youd have lots of money lol! :haha:

Sounds good. Hope you make it!

Hey fellas - just came across this thread and it sounds like a killer time. Never been to rubicon, **** I havne't even gone wheeling since moving out from the midwest a few years ago.

I'd love to make this but my k5 isn't near ready. Anybody from the LA area have a seat to fill? :D

Hey there!

Unfortunately im nowhere near the LA area but there will be plenty more trips! Its my first time so im sure it will be an adventure. Time to start working on the rig!

I'll be honest, I don't know who you are at all, might come as a shock lol. So I'm not comfortable with extending an invitation to spend 10 hours traveling in a vehicle with my Brother and I hahaha. I'd be MORE than happy to leave my rear bench seat in for extra passengers on the trail though.

Gotta get yourself up there though :)

If you need help on the truck or wanna stare at it while BSing, I'm down with driving my blazer over some weekend after Rubicon. Or hit up Azusa. We'll start with that :thumb:

Or I'll cruise over after work during the week, just wont have the blazer at that time.

Yeah I hear ya man, that came outta nowhere haha.

Anyway, always glad to meet some like minded folks. All my friends and coworkers around here drive brand new BMWs etc. They look at me like I'm crazy when I talk about wrenching on my 40 year old truck. Sucks.

Happen to pass through Culver City, or that part of town? I'm around there.

BTW killer rig. I'm borrowing that truck bed mat idea. :thumb:
