Meet "Murphy" the '84 K5

mud!

found a place mostly ATV's use, but there are pieces wide enough for a K5! it'd been raining all day, and the ground was about 3" of clay! Murphy performed admirably. without getting the carb rebuilt (which was done yesterday, just in time!) and without the offroad needles, I'm not sure we could've done some of these hills!

the trails go waaay back, in and out of the ravines. first pic for reference of steepness and height of hills! the boot pic is my boot after literally two steps outside.

but we made it up them! some were really rutted out, so we got to articulate and bounce around a bit making it up while slinging mud.

*note: when going through mud with tires that stick out a bit, roll your windows up. otherwise, mud from the rear tire will fly through the window and hit the INSIDE of your windshield*

look close at the pics for airborne mud!

the duratracs did a great job clearing for a tire that I use everyday on the highway

trying to get out from the first hill that brought us in was the hardest part. steepest/tallest hill, super rutted, very slick. we just slid down on our way in. Made it back up after about four attacks!:waytogo:

the aftermath was pretty muddy. these are the tires JUST after making it up that last hill.

super succesful trip. Fluid pressures were good the whole time, despite the work load on the 350 we stayed below 210* always, and the carb kept giving us fuel the entire time.

Not bad for a daily driver!

WD40 the entire undercarrige of your truck before you go out next time. HEALTHY coats! Mud will just fall of when you go to clean it. Old dirt bike trick :waytogo:

good tip K5Jess....I used to WD the headlight on my old motorcycle before riding so the bugs would come right off!

yep, still not clean from all the mud.

but in good news, torque rods are installed (kudos to mudboggink5)! no more super heavy tailgate. they weren't as bad as I thought they would be to put on, but it'd definately be easier starting with the tailgate off. little bit of sanding, rust inhibitor and truck bed lining and here we are.

Just read through your build. I really like the look of your truck It is a great build to see from start to finish.

FYI The don't tread on me flag is not a rebel flag. It is a minuteman/revolutionary flag. It's concept was created by Ben Franklin. Had to throw in my 2 cents as a blue coat

Thanks!

Absolutely true statement about the flag, and that, combined with it's "don't tread" philosophy is why I have it up there.

That said, in modern culture I think you could make the argument that most people commonly accept the view of it as 'rebelious' (even though that's not really its point)

Hunting season...the blazer is going on some adventures! got to sleep in the back and survive some 40+mph winds and rain (and survived dry!). Could NOT make it to some places without the nicer tires, 4x4 and the offroad needles in the carb.

Do you have that picture in a high whatever it's called, because that is bad ass.

Thanks guys!

82355: The properties of the original pic say its a 1600x1200 with 180dpi resolution if that means anything to you. Doesn't mean too much to me  ....if you can believe it, it was a double rainbow (:haha:)! couldn't fit it all into the camera though.

Here's a pic of us on a way up to a spot. Pretty steep (I have no idea about grades, but maybe 10* or a little more?), super rocky and uneven. most of the trails we used are primarily used by ATV's. blazer handled it like a champ though.

Got to the top and had fluid leaking out of the engine bay!!!:eek1: ....windshield washer fluid tank had tipped and spilt :woot:
