Mid life crisis

1989 GMC Jimmy
Getting excited I think I now have all the parts for the swap! I am going to pull in into the shop next week and start the work.

Here goes nothin!! Swap the 454 700r4 for a L86 10l80.20200114_154543.jpg 20200115_074528.jpg 20200115_074007.jpg 20200115_135929.jpg

While changing the input shaft on the transfer case I noticed the previous owner broke the rear bearing housing when he installed the SYE. Does anyone know if the dodge housing will work or do I need to use this casting only. I do not need the speedo. As I understand this casting is a 1989 only.20200115_134006.jpg

I forgot that you had mentioned the swap!
This should be neat to see!

Awesome build!!! I'm planning on a TMI interior as well as a 6.2 swap very soon (gen IV though), so definitely will be following along!

What's your plan for the VVT and AFM/DOD on the L86?

I now have a JB cable shifter new in the box if anyone is interested let me know

Still have the shifter? Interested!

Ran into an issue during mock up. Looks like I need a 1 inch spacer from trans to t case. BUMMER. using some nuts and washers for mock up.

Also if anyone knows where I can find a rear bearing housing I would really appreciate it 20200116_072405.jpg 20200116_071246.jpg 20200116_064059.jpg 20200116_064054.jpg 20200116_072355.jpg

With that electronically controlled transmission, why do you say that you don't need the speedometer? Does it have internal speed sensors for output to the TCM? I don't know how these new ones work.
I would think that you could find someone to buy your mechanical speedometer housing if you have the pieces to put it back together. Then get a VSS housing for yours. It has to come off of a passenger drop '90 to '91 case.

Sweet. Might want to order the Holley 302-20 oil pan now, because you’re going to want it. Can’t remember if you already have an ORD crossmember, we used that too. And modified their motor mounts to work with our engine plates.
Your going to love that drivetrain.

I have a GPS sender for speed on the Dakota digital gauges.

I am going to take the piece to a machine shop and cross my fingers.

I watched the video. I have a pan just need to install. Any other insight would be awesome. I cant find anyone who has done a 10l80 to np241c right drop.

I sold the shifter.

Which GM 2 wheel trans is converted to 4x4 by shorting the out put shaft. Saw a video of this, but can't find it now.

I think I have someone lined up to machine the spacer.
I have a holley oil pan, water pump and accessory kit, radiator/electric fan, 38 gal gas tank with new style fuel pump.

I think the next thing I will need to figure out is exhaust. I am thinking of going with a single 4". Has anyone done one?

.
You misunderstood what I was asking about. I am not concerned about the speedometer.

Will the transmission work without a VSS signal? Or does it have it's own internal speed sensors? For the output shaft.

The trans has it’s own speed sensors internally for the drivetrain management. Same with the 6L and 8L.

I did misunderstand. I think the trans has it's own.

Thanks Eddie for the info.
