This thread has been derailed since it was started

Enough with the "pads"..... Old joke is old. ;)

Back to tech....

I came up with the idea, that I wanted to reinforce the topper w/ a wood frame.
Then, back that, on top, with a steel reinforcement 'grid', that I could tie the cargo rack into.

After taping off my available space, I realized something.....

I'm, essentially, building an entire frame and support system,
and attempting to fasten a chopped up topper to it.

At this point I asked myself: "Why do all that work, when it just wants to be a square!?" :dunno:

I'm considering ditching the 'topper as a lid' idea,
in favor of a much simpler 'flat lid'..... Thoughts?

See what I mean.
It's gonna be a glorified square. :doah:

This makes me think of all the fiberglass work, I don't wanna do...

Hate to say it, but at that point, you may also gain a LOT of space by builidng a square topper frame off the bedsides of the blazer, and scrapping the top all together.

You will lose the appearance, but will end up with 6-8 inches of useable space on each side that you won't have with the factory topper.
Something to think about.

Well since you already wrecked a perfectly good topper, you may as well try it lol. Even if its more work it will look better i think. Oh and the fact you ruined a perfectly good topper.... Oh and the fact.....

shmite as well keep pluggin along since we dont get anymore burrito pads...
worse case you will only be out time money and ambition if it all goes horribly wrong.

Blah, blah, blah..... Sometimes you gotta crack a few eggs. :haha:

I've devised a way to cut the topper lid some more, to make it work.
We'll see.... :D

you ruined a perfectly good topper.

Half-cab tops are literally freebies, and that one wasn't in particularly great shape and would have needed to swap windows, a new seal or three, etc.

I am curious as to how it'll end up.

I can see the advantage of making to cover from scratch, and if you want to pursue it that way let me know, I can give you a drawing and all you do is execute, but since you have this thing now see how far you can go with it.

True, but at the rate these rigs get scrapped out, at some point in the future things are going to be harder and harder to come by, so if you cut a part up to use it for something like this, may as well try to use it before chucking it.

Ill still like it im sure no matter what you do with it :waytogo:

Come deal with our BS laws, and you can have as many rust-free square bodies, as you want! :haha:

Nah eff that noise lol. I just need to snag some sheetmetal and bring it back to my nice comfy no emissions regulated state. I take pride in my 6mpg k5 that stinks of unburnt fuel at idle :D

I should do what POORBOYK5 was doing, gather up some clean sheetmetal and make a trip to your areas and sell them.
As soon as I clean up here and get the other property ready for some temp storage.:thumb:
