MNorby's Goat - Ibex build

MNorby, do you have a build thread for your sonoma? im using a s10 and could use some info.

Getting some parts gathered but but Trent Fab just told me it is going to be the beginning of February before my Atlas is ready. I ordered it October 22nd and was quoted an 8 week wait. He blamed it on military orders and lack of gears for the delay. I am betting it has something to do with big name guys needing stuff before KOH myself. Had that happen to me a few years ago when I ordered a winch rope from Custom Splice at the end of December and he didn't ship till after KOH, I am now a MasterPull customer. My shifter from Jimmy's 4x4 and TCI fmrvb w/engine braking showed up so hope to install that this weekend, then hurry up and wait for the t-case since I kinda want to install the drivetrain next.

thats cool Matt, is that a Winters shifter?

yep. I had one once before in the 71 k5 but with a forward pattern valve body I didn't like having to panic row to reverse so instead of cutting gates or changing the valve body I went to a modded B&M pro stick. It worked good but since I am starting over again I am doing the valve body with the recommendation of Brandon and others so going back to the gate shifter.

What brand valve body are you going with? I'm doing the same swap on my 700r to get more control and be able to take off in 2nd or 3rd while the doubler is in low.

I've never wheeled a rmvb before but Just got my 400 with a hipster rmvb not setup for engine braking. But I'm pretty sure I made a huge mistake running a b&m unimatic is doesn't not have very positive shifts I think I'll hate it. But anyway I was wonder if its very helpful with the engine braking?

engine braking is real nice to have on decents....the RMVB is nice to have as well, but some (Cheetah for one) don't offer engine braking in a RMVB....something to watch for.

Good to know. I only recently found out that they were even a thing for 4x4 apps my Trans was built for my old camaro.

How does the cooling system on a MVB work, or for that matter any variation of a constant pressure body? I've heard a certain amount of pressure goes to the system while excess pressure goes the the cooler. Not sure how that works when everything goes to the system.

Not to hyjack, I could start something new if needed.

Matt I believe Jimmy 4x4 or someone else offers mock up Atlas plates, makes the shape of it with out the weight. I would keep your build moving forward.

Stinkyfab does but another $100 and not certain how you could mock up driveshafts with it.

Still waiting for that atlas. I finally contacted Advance Adapters to inquire about the double length lead time and gear shortages TFab told me about. Apparently they have no shortages and extended lead time, still the standard 8 weeks. They asked who I had purchased through and within an hour I had a call from Derek saying my case will be built shortly and got it paid for now. That was last week. In the mean time I got a fuel tank picked up that looks like it will fit nicely. Is a 16gal Jazz tank, need to get some walbros and setup the pickups like I had in the Sonoma. Also got my steering finished up. Is a 2.5x8x1.5 surplus center cylinder, PSC large clevis ends, and Artec ultimate arms.

Top of cylinder mount. Short pieces of strap to lock the cylinder in so not just bolts holding the side-to-side motion.

Back of mount. Welded washers to add thickness for bolt engagement and the dimpled gusset plates coincide with the V in the middle of the truss that reinforce the UCA mounts to axle tube too.

Finished setup. Still need to add clevis mount for suckdown winch on front of cylinder mount though.

Also tapped the heater core ports to 3/8 & 1/2 NPT and plugged them for now. Will use one for mechanical water temperature gauge eventually.

that cylinder mount makes more sense to me know...and the extra thickness and locating tabs...great idea! Did those come from weakness' on the S10, or just a desirable upgrade for this buggy?

does that 6.0 have any broken manifold bolts?

The S10 had a single ended cylinder, this is my first time with a double, except for the rockwells I built and sold before using. Yeah both rear-most exhaust manifold bolts were broke on the 6.0. One stuck out a 1/4" so was easy to extract, the other was broke about 1/8" deep into the head. I was able to weld a nut to it still and get it out. I need to pick up a few manifold bolts yet to replace them. I also got the EGR blocked off and the EVAP purge blocked by taking the old valve and cutting bottom off and exopied it shut so it still attaches like normal but plugs it off.
