i think as long as you have a plan and a set goal that you actually stick to, it doesnt matter. there will always be upgrades to your upgrades.
have a goal.
read up on it.
execute the goal.

The only thing I regret doing is grinding the diff so short should have kept the bottom bolt of the 14 bolt instead of having a 13 bolt.

One thing i think I did right was make a final plan and go that direction for the suspension and axles, no extra money into weak upgrades got the best the first time out.
 
I wouldn't buy a basket case again. I would buy as complete as you can afford, and wheel it. I'm still relying on the Jeepster for fun, but it definitely has its limits.

And although I love to build my own engines and stuff, I could have saved thousands buying good used stuff, instead of insisting on going through this learning curve.
I'm sure I'll feel a great deal of accomplishment when finished though.
 
Its a love hate relationship we all have with these things. We buy rigs, tear em all appart, spend way too much money on em, get discoraged, sell it off or part it out...then, a few months later, another one finds its way into your driveway. you sware this time you're going to leave it alone and just drive it. well....maybe a small lift...and it begins again

Some of us are dumb enough we just keep modifying the same rig till its just beat to death (my blazer) then we just switch all the good stuff to another chassis we find for super cheap (Horton) :D

Which brings me on to my mod that ill never do again..... Build a rig with a half ton truck frame. After 2 years of wheeling its bent pretty bad, and im not the only one in our wheelin group that has this problem.

that sure makes sense now....
also, it took me many years and many projects to really be honest with myself on how i was going to actually use the the vehicle....i just had to completely de-tune(CR, cam and ignition) a shovelhead motor that i built for a bike that became a touring sled, not a street racer........$ and time out the window. now my ego is out the window and i'm much happier with some extra money in my pocket that i saved by not over engineering things for no reason.
 
Yep, Point "A" to point "B" is the only thing a vehicle is good for. If I can get to point B with or without a road that is all that matters anymore... How fast I get there, what I look like when I arrive, and if I arrive in style just isnt a factor anymore. In fact when I went through the "Enlightenment" and the first real case of Rock Rash everything got much more simple and fun. Hind sight is 20/20, guess that comes with age? :dunno:
