how do you stay motivated to work on your rig?????
my jimmy been broke since i found a crack in the tranny case last june.just cant get motivated to work on it.almost to the point of parting it out.

Just jump into it. I go thru spells where I wont touch my truck for months and then all of a sudden I get ideas. I get a TO DO list, even if its just ideas that may not happen, I put this list together from the simplest of tasks to the extreme and work on them as I can.

You can usually tell when Im working on my Blazer, there will be a few posts in the Garage asking questions, lol. You really have to look at the end results.

I want to replace my dash and redo some of the gauges in my pod on the dash and replace the dash speakers. Not a hard task just time consuming, I dont look forward to it, but I know the results will be kick ass and something I can be proud of.

Just dont give up. Ive got a buddy that bought his K5 before I did, his motor went out on him, he yanked the motor and rebuilt it, got it running and forgot one of the lil freeze plugs up front, so he tore down the motor to replace the bearings and the motor has been sitting on the stand for about 5-6 years now. The BLazer sat outside with all the windows down and in pieces. He lost motivation to work on the K5 and will just use the motor for something else and scrap the Blazer. It has a newly rebuilt tranny too. oh well. I can see how these things happen when you get busy and lose interests.

My Blazer's been broke since Sept. 21st 2007 :doah:

took it out mudding one night and EVERYTHING just messed up. Doesn't help i was drinkin at my friends house where i tore it up

Heres a few pics :haha:

YES the breather was on it. It did this though :eek1:

Still haven't figured out why the pedal won';t come out by itself. Reckon i'll just put a bungee strap on it and get it running again :haha:

Of course i'm kidding

I have a few to do lists for my truck, they tend to keep my goals from bouncing all over the place. This site is a pretty big motivator too, just post up a build thread and people will get after you to get stuff done and post up some more truck porn for them

i worked today in 20 degree weather outside...i just set trips for deadlines...it keeps me going

I agree with the Trip idea. Its not some much the project and getting it done, but getting it done for a purpose. I have a trip that I want to plan for 2010. While that seems far away, its not when it comes time to ordering parts and working on stuff and finding the money to fund them.

i got at least 4 rides in the first 9 months of 2009 that keeps me going...eventually i wanna do at least 8 to 9 rides a year

pattys said she'd cry if you part it out so we'll be out tommorrow to help !!!!!!

when i was 16 i bought my blazer with a shot trans and it sat like that for like a month because i was overwhelmed with the idk what im doing feeling. then one day i just started ripping the old one out and 3 days later i was driving it around i usually get motivated by just forcing myself to start the project then after i start it i get really into it and just dont stop working

I take a trip to the junk yard and it gets my mind going with ideas and gets me motivated to get back home to fix my stuff (and I normally get something good to throw at it). I also hit up a show and seeing other people's ideas gets me going to fix mine.

X2, look through magazines, watch youtube videos of other K5's. One thing that works for me is to work on something easy to give yourself a since of accomplishment. Don't worry, your not the only one....

I DD my truck, so if I start a project it motivates me to not stop working until I finish it, so I can have my truck back. I also work on it for like 30 minutes every day in shop class at school.

my biggest motivator is wanting to go through the biggest hole of chit and make it out slingin it.

whatever it takes to have the most fun with my truck, i enjoy every minute of it.
in all its years of service the truck has never let me down, it deserves a bit of TLC and a little freshening up every once in a while.

Mikes problem is he has more than one bad ass rig to wheel in ......

cheap gas!!

well, it makes me miss it more...

my motivation is that the truck will take as many hrs as I can throw at it... And my list is sooo extensive... It's really more a matter of when I think I can have the money by to finish it, when that is, and backfilling the time with labor...

I've been decently diligent lately, until yesterday... I just couldn't do it, laid around all day miserable.. friday was a VERY bad day.. More good friends laid off at work and just can't get it out of my head... :(:(

I offered to take the lay off instead.. hey, I certainly woulda had time to work on it then! no parts, but lots o time! :doah::haha::doah::o

when i get tired of working on something that needs a tranny, which is a bigger type of job, I usually tell myself, even if I get 5 minutes in and I just undo a few bolts and label them in a baggie, i find once im under there i do atleast 30 minutes and it becomes fun all over again.Maybe think of it in smaller steps instead of taking it out and replacing it in one big shot...it helps break it down in my head and then i get motivated once the wrench starts turning :)

Of course if its my only daily driver at the time, then getting to work the next day is motivation itself.I hate the bus and havent ridden a bike to work in about 7 years.Thank God my 92 is running so awsome.Has problems with a wandering steering wheel, but cranking the torsion bars back down and sticking stock tires back onto it made it alot better...so aslong as its driveable im not motivated to fix the ties or B joints

I think it's more like a lack of self disipline. Set a attainable goal...Meet that goal...Then set another. Also the lack of being prepared (Not having everything you need to finish the job at hand). I know when I have to run around looking for parts. By the time I've gotten back to the shop, I've lost the motivation and have to over again.
Look towards the end result (The good part) not the work you need to do (The bad part)
