Mounted my 42Iroks and Eaton Pics!

nope, they wont fit on my balancer.... not sure they would fit on any balancer.(with the hummer wheels).. I am going to run down to discount tire later ( I play poker with all the managers) and see what they can do.

those airsoft bb's do they actually work? how manny do you put in a tire? i've even heard of guys putting tennis balls ,like 8-12 balls per tire, is that not overkill?

according to the innovative balancing website you need 12 oz for a 42 inch tire. Im gonna use 16 oz of airsoft bbs per tire.. I use the .25s so to get 16 oz I will need 1800 bbs per tire...

yall should try "equal" its non destructive to the innerliner. it works great i use it on all my truck tires that i do balance

Doesnt' equal have major moisture absorption problems?
I remember hearing if ANY moisture gets in it, or bead sealant, it clumps.

Im not going to use the equal, for one thing I will get moisture in the tires.. its just gonna happen. also I am running the pcv liners and I could see equal getting into the liners and causing some issues.

looks really good. i guess i lucked out with iroks, i didnt need to balance them at all :) been up to 75mph on the highway with them and no issues. kinda wish i had gone with 42's

Im sure part of the issue with mine is the hummer wheels...they just arent gonna be perfectly balanced... Really it doesnt matter.. I wont be driving it on the hwy or anything, just around town every now and then to Buckhead (yuppie central ) just to mess with people.
gabe:D

I havent read much about the eaton rearends

How does the Eaton Rear compair in strenght to a 14 bolt ff or a Dana 60?

Why did you decide to run that instead of another axle?

Sorry for the noob questions.

for me it was easy, I had a freind who let me have the eaton with 456and a factory detroit for $400... that was a no brainer. also the eaton can be shaved pretty tight... ect. As far as strenght goes they are pretty much the same.

What was the price on the johnny joint's?

PM me if you don't want to tell the world :ears:

The joints were mounted in the shackle flips by kurt, I bought them from Ryan22re so I have no Idea... I would contact Diy4x and find out.

well Im a dumbass... I didnt even think about them being bias ply tires, I just went down to pick up a customers tires at discount and it rode alot smoother... got me to thinkin and yep they are bias ply tires that were just mounted after sitting for a long time in Ryan22re's garage.... I cant help but laugh

mine are bias as well...weird. ill blame it on the h1's haha.

do you have any contact issues with 4" and 42's with the firewall or anything? does it need more trimming or are you contact free with the current trim job?

I havent wheeled it yet, I will some this weekend at the Trailsfortots ride. Flexing it out with the rack it looks like I might rub some on the firewall. In the rear I set the shocks up so that it will bottom out just as it starts to rub... but even without that it just barely did. I am planning on doing a zero rate to move the front axle forward an inch and that should help alot there. I will also put in some larger bumpstops.

oh so your axle is in the stock location. yea that extra 1.5" pushed out will make a big difference

Jonny Joint

Are you running a jonny joint on the front hanger for the rear spring? seems like that rear jonny joint would put a lot of stress on that front rear spring hanger. I'm looking forward to taking my rig down to buckhead and cruisin around too. I am doing a major rebuild right now and still have a lot to go. I moved to Georgia in June

This was discussed at length about a year and a half ago when I was considering replacing the standard bushing with the johnny joint.

Basically, it reduces the amount of twist in the spring. Not quite as much as a joint front and rear, but it does reduce the amount of twist in the spring, as evident from the pictures. Any amount of reduction of twist in the springs is a good thing. Increases flex and the longevity of the springs.

Kert only charged me an hour extra shop time (on top of the cost of the flip). Wasn't all that cheap, considering that the joints were about $85 shipped to DIY4x. Plus the flip and extra labor, then shipping to my house.

But it is an excellent product. Quality is second to none. Not to mention how nice of a guy Kert is to buy from.

Pics for the (pic) whores:

the eaton has a 10.5''ring gear doesn't it

can you run those johny joint on both ends of your shackle and maybe on the other end of the spring also?

how does it act in a curve with those? does the truck try and lean over?
