Are you gonna take apart the box Scott?
I have done it without taking the box apart. Center punch where I want my hole. Then put a decent dollop of grease and begin to drill. The grease holds the chips. Takes a while cause you need to put fresh grease on several times.
After the hole is drilled grease up your tap and go slow.
Course you gotta inspect it all too. I've had to take apart a box I didn't pay enough attention to and dropped metal chips in it.
Just another method to consider

I drilled and tapped my box with the glob-o-grease method too. Worked just fine.
I haven’t done a gear box but I’ve tapped a turbo for EGT the same way before. It also helps cuz you can leave the engine on and the exhaust will push it out as you go
I don’t think I’d want to do that method with a power steering box. But I’d watch someone else try

I started in on the hydro assist thing today. Cylinder mounting is figured out, I still need to disassemble the cylinder and throw a limiter in there. Tomorrow I'll pull the gear box and blow it apart too.
Well hydro assist is done. The gear box side of things was easy, once you have one apart you get a good idea for how they work. I took the cylinder apart and added a 31mm limiter in there to shorten the stroke. Now the cylinder stops at the same time to knuckles do. I found out what happens when you swap the pressure & return hoses on the gear box. It'll whip the wheel back & forth fast enough to hurt your fingers and you blow the sector shaft seal out. I'll have a new seal in hand today and hope to get it installed this afternoon. Then I'll be able to test drive it!
I cut 31mm off the end of the jack handle to make the limit spacer for the cylinder.
I bought a 1/4npt tap, got the hole in the side done, started the hole on top, then knocked the end down with my grinder and tapped it to the bottom.
O'Reilly non chlorinated brake cleaner is the best paint stripper I've found. Won't be buying any more of that shit.

How close are the tires to that hose at full passenger
A couple inches. I'll keep an eye on them. You can see the shiny spot of the gearbox where the tire used to rub, before I put spacers on it.
I installed my new seal this afternoon and it immediately pooped out the bottom of the gearbox. So I pulled the gearbox to figure out what's going on and found that the snap ring in the bottom that holds the internal seal and bearings and stuff in, broke. I noticed this yesterday when I took the box apart but 90% of the snap ring was still there so I thought I'd be just fine. The pressure inside the box was enough to push the metal back up ring and the seal out through the gap left by the broken snap ring. So now all I need is a snap ring. No luck finding a snap ring in any of the nearby stores, I'll head down to McFaddendale hardware tomorrow and see if they have a snap ring that will work.

I got a snap ring at McFaddendale hardware today and it fit just fine, box went back together, installed on the truck, filled and tested, looks we're ready to rock crawl. You can steer it lock to lock on asphalt one handed.
@kgblazerfive I checked he tire/hose clearance , 3" at ride height. I'll keep an eye on it this weekend.
