Muddysub's Toyota crawler.

Kiss my ass, now I’m doomed.
We broke our ring and pinion today it was parked up to the left of your trucks.

Slapping our 1035 sticker on a other car so we retain our 2nd place in points.

Can't believe we ran Into each other out here... Surprised but at the same time I'm not haha

We finished yesterday without any really issues, our battery actually started failing on us but we finished. We’re all ready to go for today. Looking forward to going home, I love racing but the dust and wind get old.

Agreed, new trans was here at 5am started at 7:30 driving by 2 hours.

That’s awesome man!
The trophy truck next to us in the pits had a trans brought in from San Diego after killing it in qualifying. Raced it two laps Saturday and it caught on fire. They left that night.

Dang, race was definitely insane! I left after the class 1's and trophy trucks walked in my hous at 8:40. I'm so tired slept 9 hours total sense Thursday and participated in to many beverages. We pulled the engine out with 3 of us lifting with our hands... My back hurts. If we would have packed the passenger seat belts I would have co dogged the race. Next year I'll be doing a few.

I took the yota out New Years weekend (Friday actually) to Logandale where Hump n Bump was held back in November. I tagged along with some friends with an awesome SAS Tacoma and an LJ Brute truck, we ran one of the harder trails out there. Crawling in a small group of good drivers is so nice. I learned stuff, we tried extra credit lines, I even showed up the badass linked LJ on one. One of the obstacles is a set of 4’ drop offs in the bottom of a wash that make a tight left turn halfway down. Even my little Toyota has to back up once in there. On my second time down I dropped in in 2wd and instead of backing up like I normally would, I burned the rear tires in reverse. It made the rear end slide down hill and lined me up for the second drop off. With no one there to see it. Haha! After running that one Trail I did a few donuts in the sand and killed the steering pump. I muscled it back to the trailer and dragged it home.

So I need to replace the pump before KOH, I’d like to get a bigger reservoir while I’m at it. I might just cut mine in half and weld in some 3.5” exhaust pipe to increase capacity.

I didn’t get many photos.

I'm jealous of your New Years wheeling! We went New Year's Day but it was -18 and heaters on full most of it.

I need to fix the heater in this thing. I hotwired the blower but it’s stuck on cold.

I heard someone say once that “if it’s stupid but it works, it’s not stupid.”

So I cut my power steering reservoir in half and welded in some exhaust pipe today. I split it just above the baffle/screen in the reservoir, picked up a scrap piece of 3.5”pipe from a local exhaust shop and welded it all up. Well there was some measuring, cutting, grinding and more measuring in there but it all went pretty quickly. There’s a .003”difference between the ID of the reservoir and the OD of the exhaust pipe so they fit together nice and tight. I was glad that it did, I ended up with about 1/4” of overlap at either end so I wasn’t butt welding the thin material. I still stacked tacks the whole way around to keep the heat down, especially since there’s some rubber in the top half that I didn’t want to burn.
It still bolts in where I had it, the hoses still fit, nothing changed on the bottom end of the reservoir. It doesn’t even leak! One thing I was kind of bummed about is hood clearance. It misses the hood by 1/2” or so. I really wanted to cut a hole in the hood for it to stick out of. Oh well, I’ll have to settle for my redneckery being hidden.

I got bored with some electrical tape too.

Welds look decent, you check it for leaks?

I may have missed this but why were you going for more capacity? Overheating the fluid?

Not bad for stacking tacks with a shitty old 110v machine. No leaks, I got it right on the first try. After installing the hydro assist cylinder it runs cooler than it did but extra fluid capacity doesn’t hurt.

The new pump will be here tomorrow and so will some side work. So I knocked out a couple things on the yota today while I have time.

It’s needed front bump stops for a while now. Turns out the Suburban’s old front bump stops actually worked out really well. I’ve got 3 1/2” of uptravel in the steering, after cutting off the old stops and installing these they’re 3 1/8” away from the pads on the frame. That’ll do.

I also rerouted the steering hoses. The tire rubbed them at full lock and they looked kinda shitty outside the frame. They’re tucked in out of the way now.
