Muddysub's Toyota crawler.

Ah dang it... you just reminded me of something I need to do on mine. I’ll be stealing your idea 100% as I have four of those in my parts pile.

I welded the bump stops in and went wheeling Sunday. It rides so much better across the desert than it used to. The bumps seem to be working alright, I never heard/felt the tires hitting the flatbed. Everything went great aside from my friend breaking a rear axle. He limped it home and had the shaft replaced in no time.

How about an update on things?

Raptor springs are working great, KOH was fun, I broke stuff, it’s fixed now.

Ok, maybe we need a little more detail.
The raptor springs are working great, they took a beating at KOH and performed really well. Cruising across the lakebed was smooth, they’re soft but definitely stiffen up as they flatten out. I get a bit more body roll but that’s to be expected with the amount of droop they offer. We wheeled primarily at night so I didn’t get many decent photos of the truck flexed up. I had them wrapped up pretty well on a trail called Blueberry, I got into a shitty situation but they handled it just fine. I tried a buggy line, almost had it til I debeaded a tire which caused me to fall off my line, landing on my drivers door and putting me into a bind which eventually (after my friends reseated the tire, as I was hanging off a huge boulder, staring at the sky) broke a u-joint on the rear driveline. Once that happened we pulled cable, my winch pulling forward to a friend’s XJ and his winch to a snatchblock back to my flatbed to pull me out from under the boulder I was bound up under. The drivers door was f**ked after that. Didn’t open again til just the other day.
I replaced the u-joint the next morning and ran another couple trails til I broke a front spring, ending the fun for the weekend. I actually ran the hard lines in chocolate thunder with a broken spring and didn’t know it haha!

Last weekend I got the door fixed up, it’s got a little more personality now but it’s functional again. I replaced the spring with a freebie from a friend and swapped in a new battery shut off switch, the old one died on me up at backdoor the day of the race.

It’s all ready to go again, might go out crawling with the guys from work this weekend.

I think if he took the burb up the trails where the yota goes it would look a hell of a lot worse than the yota does.

No need to beat up a nice square when the yota can take the beating instead. Following his IG account he's taken it out a little but it's not his dedicated crawler.

So... Is the Sub getting any love or is the 'new hotness' getting all the attention? Sub may get moody getting ignored..

;)

I don’t really do any lighter wheeling anymore, i keep pushing harder and harder. Daisy hasn’t gone wheeling in a year or more now, she gets driven to work and around town from time to time. I drove her out to the Mint 400 yesterday, she still cruises at 85mph just fine. Once I get a few more things done on the ford I’m gonna pull the radiator out of daisy, swap in an OEM big block radiator and build a new fan shroud. She needs a few other things but that’s where I’ll start. Fortunately the yota needs nothing right now, it’s the least project of my vehicles, haha!

We went wheeling Friday night.

OK guys, how about an update.
Last Saturday I drove to Afton Wyoming with what’s left of the yota on a trailer so @blazinzuk and I could start throwing tube at it. I picked up some sticky 40” creepy crawlers along the way too. We’ve been hitting it pretty hard, working 10-14hrs a day all week, we’re both beat but it’s going pretty well.

There’s plenty more to say but I’m pretty tired so here are some pictures.

How about a couple more?

We cut out the rockers and built in some boatsides, that plus the 40s moves my sliders up 9” or so. Eventually I’ll push the front axle forward and lift it a little more and it’ll be a totally different truck on the trails.

Scrolling back and looking at some of the recent pictures I can see why you're going this route. Should be pretty neat when it's done!
