So I didn't want to thread jack ashman's exhaust thread, so I am starting my own new thread.

So for those of you that don't follow my build thread, I just got done building and testing a 474 horsepower 406 small block for my stepper.
Anyway I have been running flowmasters on all my stuff for while now, for my purposes there are fine, and have no real problem with them....BUT, I am ready to try something else. Something different.

FYI: My system will be headman stainless elite headers, three inch dual exhaust with an H pipe. Dumped behind the muffs pointing down over the axle.

So what do ya'll think I should run for mufflers?
Price isn't a concern. They need to flow well and they do need to be loud (but refined)when I step on the skinny pedal.

Very happy with my supertrapps. They sound great and are small for easy placement.

Haha, just messin with ya, had a buddy with dual supertrapps, sounded very tough! Do they even still make them for cars?

Not real sure if I want to go that route....

I have an uncle with a Borla cat back setup on his Chevy truck, TBI. It sounds really nice in the driveway, didn't seem too loud, I don't know about highway drone though, never been on the road with it.

I've had a Hooker Aerochamber muffler on two cars, both sounded awesome, not overly loud and didn't have that canny Flowmaster sound.

Have been looking hard at those... Have heard good things.

Just found this while surfing for exhaust clips. Thought it was cool and good info.

Love the part around 0:30 when Stacy says; "Now in the beginning you just had STOCK mufflers, ha that was unacceptable"

running a warmed up 350, full tail pipes 2.25 with em purple hornies. Love em.

Im running thrush welded on my 383 in the Beaumont. Sounds pretty good.....although they are much like a flowmaster.

Something I did back in the day when summit failed to tell me one muffler clamp was back ordered so they didn't ship my whole order is try the vortex cone inserts by dynamax I think. I got em for way cheaper than normal due to summit messing up.

I loved em. Not for making stuff more quiet but for making a stock small block sound way deeper and mellow. Got asked more than once what cam I put in my big block. It really did make my stock small block sound awesome.

There are lots of quality mufflers out there but throwing a couple of those inserts in should make any motor sound more beasty.

There's that sound I talk about with running 2.25 inch or smaller pipes, the "clapping/smacking" sound with on the throttle.

I haven't heard that really with larger diameter pipes..

I've been converted into a big fan of magnaflows. They're a little more quiet/docile around cruising rpms but they still have great tone up top. Good for a driver.

that's actually the route I'm going with Mutt this time since I've heard so much good about them..... was searching Magnaflows site last night.. I've never run em, only Flo's, glaspacks, Trapps, etc...

I was kinda looking at the biggest I could find on there.. I was thinking the 5 x 11 x 22" one... 3" in/out.. it's like $125....
