My 1990 K5 Blazer build

It is really just surface rust, it'll clean up with a flap wheel. No pitting or anything.

I'd try steel wool and some penetrating oil to get the rust off so you don't hurt the spindle any more than u gotta to get rust off

Yeah, flap wheel seems too aggressive to me. If I did that, the thing sure as hell wouldn't be round when I was done! :doah:

Yeah, I'll try the steel wool before anything I guess.

I'm not talking an aggressive flap wheel, I normally use this little one I have with mild grit paper on it, use it low speed on my cordless drill and it doesn't remove any material, just knocks off the rust.

Well, I just returned my 6" lift springs and bought all the parts I need for the rear disc brake swap.

Your rig is looking great. I too am starting a 1990 Blazer project (will post some pictures soon). By the way, did you purchase your front and rear bumpers (where?). Sweet ride man, well gotta get back to finishing my 700r4 rebuild.

The bumpers were on it when I got it, they were apparently built for the truck and not purchased.

In case anyone is wondering, I change my mind a LOT. :haha:

I went to the junkyard yesterday trying to find parts for the K5 and the 14bff. Well, the yard was pretty picked and there were no 14bff out there. I also learned that the removable panel on the tailgate of a late K5 is different than an early Burb. They may all be different, but the panel is definitely different. Ugh.

Anyway, I sat back and thought as I was sitting in the back of a busted up Suburban trying to stop my hand from bleeding from the rear window that just shattered on me while I worked and I started adding up everything I needed for the 14bff swap.

Then I realized I am going to hold off. I have way too much going on in my life now, and money is tight until next summer.

So I'm going to wrap up this 14bff and put it in my parts heap beside the shop, and go ahead and do the 14bsf that my buddy gave me. I can regear it to 4.88 and maybe find a used locker or gov-lock for it, probably spend the same for those two things as I would for the disc brake conversion parts alone. I'm only going to be running 37s, and beach time is about the hardest it will see in the forseeable future.

So to summarize:
I change plans more than my socks
To quote my high school basketball coach, I have an attention span the size of a gnat's dick. (You ever seen a gnat's dick? WELL IT AIN'T GOT ONE!) :haha:
14bff is mothballed
14bsf is going in the truck
Hummer tires and recentered beadlocks are coming for Christmas hopefully.

Scored these off of a local guy in my 4x4 club for $100.

Hopefully I'll be yanking the 14bsf this week so I can regear it and install it in the truck. I am probably going to try and get my van running before I mess with the K5, but hopefully by New Years I'll have it back and driving.

They are almost perfect too, and the guy even gave me the centercaps. Not using those, so I can resell them to make some money back too!
