My 5.3 swap thread!

heck I still felt that I rushed a little with mine, well I'll clean it up a little in the spring when it's not snowing out. For now I have 500 trouble free miles on it so far :)

Not all of the loom on the drivers side there is being used, but was laying on the wheel well in the picture.

Yep. The price. Ultimate plan is to run the 5.3 for the next 3 years until i top out at work and can afford more. At which point im going to do something cool like an LQ9 or LS3 or whatever. THEN, i would like to put that 5.3 in the blazer i think.

is a 6.0 out of the question here? it is a burb after all. or is the price keeping you away?

typically at least another $1000 over a 5.3L to purchase. As for the guy who got a 8.1L for $900....WOW great price. Around here the cheapest quote was $3800, most being in the 5k range with all accessories/harness/computer

It's funny, I'm not used to seeing one of those engines painted orange. Almost looks out of place.

But, so far, so good? How do you like it?

I love the new power, it seems to get better mileage and runs much smoother throughout the rpm band.

I love the painted orange, a buddy went a step further and painted his valve covers too, but I didn't have time to degrease and sandblast them so the paint wouldn't flake off.

Ashman, this is guy I got my 8.1 from. He is in SLC regularly, or used to be last year... Got my 8.1 for $900 delivered to Portland from this guy.

hey thanks man! I'll look into it.

for the guy asking about a 6.0, most likely, thats the route I'm going to go. I know its a bit more, but so far it seems worth the price difference not to have to do it twice.

@y5mgis hope I'm not hijacking your thread with all my questions... maybe I'll go mess up teck's thread for a bit.

Hey its all good man! Better to ask questions in a thread that already exists then start a new one i suppose. Also some of your questions could be ones that others have and you could be doing them a favor by asking!

You might also keep an eye out for somebody selling a whole truck sometimes you can find a complete truck for around 2-2500 and get your motor and trans then part out everything else to get the rest of your money back.

That's how I got mine a buddy was parting out a wrecked truck he bought and sold me the 5.3 out of it complete for $450.

Yup. I have will have access to a 5.3/4l60 for really cheap when the trans goes out. Which may be awhile. It had 268k miles on it when I did the brakes last week. the damn thing just keeps going.

a friend of mine has been talking about an engine swap in his 258 powered cj7. I think a 5.3 is the answer. Now I have to keep track of this and tour other thread for all the info. Especially the wiring

If your doing stand alone and not trying to marry two wire harnesses like me, it looks quite simple. Go to lt1swap.com and watch those videos I posted. That pretty much shows you the way. Is that 268k on the stock motor? That's pretty impressive!

268k. Its had plugs/wires a couple times and a fuel pressure regulator. That's it. Same with the trans. Just services. Original 10b with a gov bomb too. Amazingly dependable......like a rock

I think it will be an easy swap in the CJ. Complete stand alone i think would be best nyeays.

yeah, I've been keeping my eyes open for good deals. I think that would be a great way to go if you can get the right deal. easy way to make sure you have everything you might need.

of course the downside is finding a place to park yet another truck... :dunno:

OT here: What master cylinder is that? Is it stock for the truck? If not, what is it from and are you running disc in the rear?

97 crew cab 1 ton truck master cylinder. The stocker finally died and the pedal would almost hit the floor with the dana 60 brakes up front and the 2007 14bff rear with factory disk brakes. So I found that one ton master swap thread on here and swapped that one in. Although I had to cut the ribs out of the hood, which dented the top of it :doah: This master is much much larger than the stock one that failed.

I think that is the one I got to put on mine. Can look up the part #. Mine cleared but it did make an impression in the hood pad though.
