My '70 C/10 - The Rat Bastard... [Won't Idle.]

Its safe to say, that I f*cking hate this motor, right now.

This sentence worries me.
Don't hate the engine, hate the no start condition which is a factor of any engine, not just this one. Many other engines could be even harder to diagnose. We got fuel fire and air. Something is missing. It'll be something simple. Just gotta track down the problem and all will be right with the world.

I'm starting to think the starter has some issue...might spin ok, but lose torque under load... not sure if I've seen a failure like that, but it could happen I suppose...

what brand is it? manny.... some aftermarket parts house thing?

Its a NAPA reman., The "mini" '96-'00 Vortec starter.
Im thinking starter, too.

I mean, with the right voltages, no resistance, no spark plugs in;
It still spins ~half as fast as it should.

can't say I'm overly familiar with that particular app... it may very well be the same mini's I get, and install in ton's of merc's..

merc sh*t is real good quality.. usually AC Delco, etc...

Derp,... To be more clear, its a Remanufactured Delco.
NAPA markets them as NAPA Pro's.

These starters are on a few dozen applications.
I wouldn't be shocked that you used a few.

Its kinda loud.
Like an electric can opener sound... But, about 10x louder.
Im thinking that may be it's problem.
My only apprehension to just grabbing another one, is it not being the problem.
Is there ANY other tests that must be done first?

Or borrow one from Issaam. If the other one works, then we know it's a starter issue and not the motor or timing.

Ok I have been busy but I just came back and caught up with this.
I have a couple of starters that you can try.
I am sure it'll be the starter.

Kind of....

I just warranteed that starter, got a new one, and she cranks fast.
Or, at least what I would deem acceptable for starting.
Hits the TDC mark twice as fast as the last starter.
Side note: the last starter did all kinds of inconsistent sh*t, when NAPA tested it.

The new one doesnt make the "can-opener" noise the last one did.
Just regular old cranking starter sound.

Except its not starting.
Seems like an ignition issue.
Its not even attempting to fire.
(#1 has spark.)
Sumbeach is just spinning.

is it fueling ok? make sure it's not flooding out... it's one of the first things i'll check in an issue like that, i'll just pull a plug or 2...

She's gettin' gas.
I checked at the Carb, and pulled the filter, and pump.

Could be flooded... i've tried to crank the damn thing at least a dozen times.
(Over the least couple days.)
