My '70 C/10 - The Rat Bastard... [Won't Idle.]

your missing the point...you have a SB, his is a BB, inherently the SB's spin better in a stock config... in other words, your just looking at some 402 vs 408 number thing, when it's more based on valvetrain geometry and upgraded components...

now you start throwing shaft mounted rockers, alum rods and such at the mix, and all bet's are off... :haha:

Yea... Gonna build a Beastly 427.... One a these days... :haha:

what is this a response to, Paul?

Adam's rpm post.... as you've gathered...

I ran a pretty nasty 402 in my blue Chevelle... solid cam, 427 heads, yada, it did pretty well...

Mine has 427 heads on it.
But, I think mine are the open chamber, not the peanut port kind.

Its truck-as-hell, under the hood. :haha:

well, the 2 configs are open chamber vs close chamber... generally, open chamber are preferable.. but closed, in the right config can work well too.. mine where closed chamber heads...

it refers to the combustion chamber style.. whereas ports are square, oval and later peanuts.... closed chambers wheren't around very long, open became the dominant style.. 1970 LS6 454's run open chamber heads..

Ahhh... I was confusing the wording, I see.

NEVERMIND.... They're oval port heads.
Just checked back.

I remember reading that squares are for higher rpm's.

it's inherently gonna be a higher RPM motor, or at least, digging that action... rectangular ports are what you where always looking for "in the day" when you wanted a high RPM, high HP, track car....

not so much a bottom end torque config, not that it'll be a dog.. it's just a higher RPM band... like a single plane intake vs a dual..

but for all out HP performance, rect port was/is where it's at... they will generally be the most valuable used heads... LS6 heads where open chamber, rectangle port...

alrighty, disregard the last post than.... :haha: damn slow typing monkey boy here... :pimp:

Yea....

The second I hit "post", I immediately remembered.
Then, instantly was like, "Oh no, he's gonna explain it all, and I just wasted his time." :doah:

Rectangles are always for higher rpm. Basically pointless on anything but a very hairy street car or a drag car. A huge cnc ported oval will outdo a rectangle on the street, and be comparable to one on a track. 5500 rpm and you should still be ok with your setup. I wouldn't use that as your regular shifting point, but once in awhile it will be ok. Now, add some NO2, twin turbos and how about some alcohol and get back to us. Buckle up.

I have all the ARP stud's for a BBC, in my garage.
Before I saw all the rust, this was gonna be a TurboCharged 402.
But, the rust made me think twice, and decide to build a known-good Block.

I can piece together a great, Turbocharged motor, on the stand.
No corners cut... Just one good part at a time.

97*F.... Sonuvab*tch.... :doah:

The kinda heat that makes you sweat, just thinking about it.
Nonetheless doing stuff, in it.

I was downing ice water, like its going out of style. :haha:

Staying hydrated, and poisoning myself with fluoride, at the same time. :doah:

Consider it a kidney flush. Except for, as you say, the intentional contaminants. It's like flushing your radiator with ATF (hey, gotta keep it SORTA truck-related, right? :D )

They do have one.
But it's that glass-fuse looking kind.

I swapped it for led.

Mine did NOT come with Courtesy lights, tho.

And, to clarify... The Courtesy lights I installed are under the cab, and light up the ground.
